Eason is a struggling musician and Jessica is a stay-at-home mom who is tired of their financial problems. Eason had a record deal that fell through, they’ve had to watch their pennies, but Eason has decided to make changes in his career to help ease their money issues. Jessica is excited and they’re going to celebrate with their best friends, Rob and Bree. They’re going to have a game night together. Eason delivers Luna to Rob and Bree’s house as they’ve volunteered to have their babysitter watch all three kids. Rob and Bree also decide to bring expensive wine and Champagne to game night to toast the good news.

From the Embers is an important reminder to us all of the essential role that storytelling plays in ensuring we allow those affected to be honoured and heal, without feeling overlooked. Each episode explores a different theme. now if you guys have never read an ALY MARTINEZ romance before well, first, wth are you doing with your life, but also, you need to know that they ALWAYS have a big "plot twist." always. sometimes they work. see RECLAIM. sometimes they don't. this book is the latter.

Goodness.. this sounds like such an emotional read. I’m not sure I could handle the book if the review alone breaks my heart. 😅 Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

A beautiful story, despite having a little too much drama for my taste, predictable and a little forced at the end. Episode 2, ‘Home and Housed’, looks at the millions of animals endangered by the bushfires and the people who tried to save them.I genuinely had to FORCE myself to keep continuing this book. I lost almost all interest 50% into it, and pretty much skimmed the rest. Except the chemistry and the drama. I feel like the story is moving so fast. The plot is good. The twist and turn is expected. Now pay attention because………. now you don’t think I’ll actually tell you more of what had me holding my breath, do you. All I will say is that this book will capture your full attention and have your emotions all over the place. It will have you sniffling, laughing, crying, ahhing and at times gasping. Jessica and Eason are plagued with financial difficulties that affect their ability to co-parent their daughter, their intimacy and their overall relationship. Despite being married, they honestly don't even like each other. Like at all. Jessica is SUPER belittling, withholds sex, and is not supportive of Eason’s career choice of being a songwriter/musician. While she does ALL the complaining, she refuses to get a job and or help with the finances that come with raising their daughter. Miss girls expectations were at a 100. While simultaneously doing ZERO to help. unless it's written by Nicole Jacquelyn or Aly Martinez. And then I'm willing to die on the proverbial Dead Ex Hill. With funeral bells on.

Not only has the rise of COVID-19 slowed recovery efforts, as the media focus their attentions on a global crisis, those who have lost everything are now also left behind. I forgot why I loved Aly Martinez' writing so much, and I'm glad for the reminder. I'm off to play catch up with her other books that I've missed out on.From there, it’s a heartbreaking journey for both Eason and Bree. I loved Eason! He’s a single dad who is doing everything to give his daughter a happy life. He works day and night, hustles, and cares for not just Luna, but for Bree’s kids, too. The way the author set up Bree at the beginning of the book, I wasn’t sure I’d ever like her, let alone think she was good enough for Eason. It turns out, Bree is smart, kind, funny, and vulnerable. I doubted the author could pull off the romance on this one. Spouses dying in a massive fire? They were all best friends? That’s a tough one. She absolutely pulled this off. There’s a slow burn and great plot twists. Their spouses were disgusting pieces of shit, but her ex husband was an better actor, they had an good marriage (he was cheating but he faked it well) while the hero was struggling and divorce was almost being discussed, they were no longer having sex and he was sleeping on the couch.
