About this deal

I think I recall that Twonky and Mediatomb both have a user interface, perhaps accessed via a port, and it will periodically rescan it's folders. I think It was also possible to force a rebuild which I needed to do initially - it was some time ago however. Try the Foxsat doc on these clients.

I take it the box is the non recording Foxsat-HD and not the Foxsat-HDR that has a internal Hard Disk and can record. Software Update allows you to update the system software to maintain the proper performance of the receiver.

FOXSAT-HDR

Question 4) Why does Foxsat come out of standby and stays on BBC 1 London which is not even on my TV guide, as I have hidden all none HD channels? No idea why it comes on in the afternoon and stays on until I turn it off despite the next recording is not scheduled until in the evening. The system works almost flawlessly and can deliver top-quality broadcast images and sound. Directly comparing simultaneous broadcasts on Freesat, Freeview and Sky (using my third LNB) show that this system is on a par or sometimes better than its rivals. Upscaled standard-def picture quality depends on the channel, but more often than not it looks quite ropey. BBC One, for instance, looks fairly clean and sharp, but ITV1 and some of the music channels look soft and noisy. All of the channels suffer from a little pixel shimmering here and there and there’s some ringing around edges, but a lot of this is down to the quality of the original broadcasts and none of it really spoils your viewing experience anyway. You CAN use the HDR for another satellite. I set one up once for 19E with 28E as sat A and 19E as Sat B for a DiSeqC switch. This was when the HDR was set up for single LNB use. The LNB1 out went to LNB2 in and LNB1 in went to the DiSeqC switch. It all worked as you would expect it to. Don't know if this will help you, but I have my Foxsat HDR set to power on at 12:30 pm and off at 12:40 pm each day, set on CH HD (5001)

C4 in freesat mode is SD only, PCM stereo and you can't see C4HD unless in non-freesat mode on a 1000S. Suggesting finger trouble and watching in freesat mode to me? You must be talking about the custom firmware add on available from AV Forums. There are too many options to discuss here. It's actually very easy to set up and use. Please can you tell me what I need to do for Foxsat to give me the relevant DLNA link for streaming? The Humax FOXSAT-HDR also has a Common Interface, which can be used for viewing encrypted channels by using a Conditional Access Module (CAM), with a valid card. No CAM modules are included with this receiver, there are currently no encrypted services listed on the Freesat EPG.I used to ftp for T2 in the past but didn't find it much improvement so at the moment all I am doing is copying and pasting from Foxsat to external usb 3 drive. Extremely slow

To set a recording on say Channel 4 HD once you have used the channel editor to make Channel 4 HD visible in freesat mode. The signal strength and quality are high. If severe weather conditions or your location are affecting reception, for example, the software update should be postponed until signal strength and quality are favourable again. With the custom firmware, non-Freesat channels can be added to the Freesat EPG. Unfortunately no EPG programme information is available for non-Freesat channels. ITV, however, is a problem. Its broadcast bit-rate is often much lower than the BBC's and it frankly looks dire in standard-definition on Freesat. We haven't seen an ITV HD broadcast yet in the few hours since installing the Foxsat-HDR but previous broadcasts viewed on the non-PVR version were superb. Also I forgot to mention above would you know why channel names are not shown properly. For non-freesat channels I understand it shows 5000+ number but even for Freesat channels it appears to show channel number not name apart from ITV when I go into library.

You work at BID, what a legend.

Of course, the Humax Foxsat-HDR isn't flawless. The 320GB hard-disk is now beaten for recording capacity by some rivals, and it's also one of the pricier models around (although the 'official' price can be usefully shaved down if you shop around). It's been used this way for dozens of updates on Humax kit (not just the Foxsat-hdr). Never needed to use the full format option. AV2HDR adds the facility to use FTP transfer to send the video file set created by AV2HDR directly into a selected folder on the HDR. I'm not sure where to go next. Can anyone help? Is this possible, and if so, what am I doing wrong?

So I am inclined to get it working again but wanted some advice about options. I am currently assuming although can't be sure that the PSU is faulty but cannot see obvious signs of damage. You must be running a non freesat tune. To retune in Freesat mode requires access to the Freesat home transponder which is a horizontally polarised transponder. Under Setup, you can configure the installation settings, perform a Freesat Tune, Manual Tune, update software and restore the receiver to its Factory settings. On the plus side, I have the ability to properly troubleshoot future failures so not a bad outcome, as long as the existence of two working boxes is not immediately apparent to the other half that might perceive this to be "clutter" or "unnecessary."Please note that once you perform Freesat Tune, all Freesat channels will be deleted. Select Yes and press the OK button to delete all freesat channels. With a 320GB hard drive, the Humax FOXSAT-HDR is capable of recording about 200 hours of standard definition programmes, or around 80 hours in high definition (HD). The receiver can collect the whole Freesat 7 day electronic programme guide (EPG) in around 30 seconds. As for iPlayer content, obviously it's not as crisp as satellite-delivered HD, but it is surprisingly good – and it also adds considerably to the Foxsat-HDR's appeal. It's not cheap, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for.
