I’ll admit, when we finally parked up (parking not always being the easiest in Puglia) I was a bit dubious about Locorotondo, as the modern part of the town isn’t anything special. Take the short walk up the hill through to the old town, and you’ll be transported to a magical maze of white streets, decorated with hanging flower baskets and outside restaurant tables. I remember last year when I was on my business tour in San Severo (Italy) unfortunately I missed these beautiful place but next time I will definitely explore. Thanks for sharing your Blog. Your blogs Inspired me a lot. Including why you should alway stay in the historic centre, hire a car and follow the rhythms of southern Italian life, these are 17 essential things to know before you visit Puglia, Italy. I have a plan for my next vacation, recently I got married and I want to enjoy my honeymoon in another country after reading your blog I decided to go Puglia. Thanks for sharing this information. Not long after booking our flights, we began the arduous task of weighing up various accommodation options - unfortunately, that search began in Polignano a Mare.

I heard this name Puglia for the first time. I didn’t know that such place exists in Italy. Thanks for sharing. It’s a city that you might have to work a little harder to start to feel the true essence of. As my first visit here seemed a little dull, I joined a tour with Veloserviceto really get to know the city better.

Olga and Massimo guided us through how to cut and roll the pasta to make the ear shapes most known in the region, and while I’ll undoubtedly win no awards for my contributions to pasta making, the delicious lunch they served us afterwards was thankfully not made by me! What a disappointment. This was a stream-of-consciousness ramble that read more like a diary than a memoir. There was no structure to the story. There wasn't even really a story! There was barely even any dialogue. Even for memoir, there should be dialogue, scenes, characters. But this was all a rambling mess of telling and not showing, with random side stories that didn't matter at all thrown in when it never made sense.

I found this blog very interesting about Puglia Guide as you have explained in detail, but especially I liked about coastline with cliffs, beaches, and charming towns. Thank you!The capital of the province of Lecce, the city of Lecce is often called the ‘Florence of the South’ due to the abundance of Baroque architecture in its historic centre. In my book, Lecce is the most beautiful city in Puglia and an absolute must-visit! The Duomo boasts the tallest tower in Puglia. As I’ve said, the cuisine of the region has historically been made of simple ingredients, but truly delicious. This was due to the south of Italy having not just less money, but also one of the most apparent differences; the abundance of Olive Trees to make oil with, while the North of Italy would rely more on butter. If you’re in the planning stages of your Puglia holiday, then you should know that the southern region of Italy - it’s the ‘heel of the boot’ if you look at the map - is perfect for a week, or even better if done in two. My holiday this year was booked for a trip to Puglia in Italy, and I hoped this book would give me an insight into the region. Unfortunately, with the Coronavirus pandemic raging all over the world, but being particularly virulent in Italy, we will not now be going. But the book did give me a beautiful picture of this slightly less well known and less tourist populated area of Italy and its people. The author lived there for four years with her dog Basil and tells of her life there trying to fit in with the locals, rather than from a tourist point of view. Not a surprise given that it's not an English speaking country, but definitely one to note if you're used to travelling in the north of Italy or other popular tourist destinations in Europe. Amazing blog. Very well explained. The pictures look scintillating, especially that of the white city. Thanks for sharing.A Karstic depression, rather than a valley proper, this stunning area is awash with vines and olive trees, with Trulli houses dotted throughout it. Joining a cycling tour through Puglia This is a part of the world where the beating heart of community is set firmly in the rhythms of the past. There are several gorgeous accommodations in the city I can recommend such as Palazzo de Noha, Dimora Charleston and Palazzo Lecce. Search for hotels in Lecce (Booking.com). Casarano Head inland from Taranto to the town of Massafra. This historic town straddles both sides of the San Marco ravine and is worth a stop for lunch and a wander. The town is most famous for its cliff dwellings comprised of homes and cave churches in the ravine. You can also visit the imposing Massafra Castle. For a delicious meal, I recommend Ristorante Vecchie Storie in Via Giuseppe Pisanelli. Massafra sits on both sides of the San Marco ravine. Salento, Southern Puglia

Gallipoli is believed to have been founded by the Greeks and through the centuries, the town was conquered by a succession of powers including the Byzantines and the Normans. In the 18th century, Gallipoli was home to the largest olive oil market in the Mediterranean. From its ports, ships laden with olive oil sailed to major European cities where the oil was used for lighting. It is said that olive oil from Gallipoli lit the streets of London before the advent of the electric bulb. The enormous baroque Sant Agata Cathedral towers over the old town! Read more about things to see in Bari. While in Bari, I stayed at the lovely Gatto Bianco Ducchesa, situated at the edge of the Old Town. Search for hotels in Bari (Booking.com). Central Puglia I came a little late to a passion for Puglia. I think we got off, Puglia and I, on the wrong foot. Perhaps it was the trulli, those irritating mini-houses, their roofs pointed as a witch’s hat, that look like garden sheds for garden gnomes. Perhaps it was the lazy ‘New Tuscany’ tag that used to be bandied about.A port city, Brindisi doesn’t have quite the same photographic appeal as some of the other must-visit places in Puglia, but there are still a few things to do here, such as visitors the tall standing Monumento al Marinaio ‘d’Italia, the 13th-century castle, and taking in the Roman Columns on the square atop a grand staircase. Making pasta outside a small house in Bari Bari Cathedral Bari Embracing the natural beauty of this inland valley is the name of the game here; whether through hiking, or taking a bike with Puglia cycling tours. Factor in all the grammatical and punctuation errors and typos (including the one in the first sentence of the first chapter... facepalm) and you've got yourself one self-indulgent "book" that was obviously never edited. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make it past a 1st or 2nd draft. There is a silver lining however - outside of Polignano a Mare, the vast majority of tourists are Italian, which means that although there's still a healthy dose of grey nomads and tour groups, at least you'll still feel like you're in Italy. Between Putignano and Polignano a Mare lies Conversano ( map), a historic town with a medieval castle. It’s a lovely town to stroll around in. In addition to the Castle, look out for the 11th century Romanesque Cathedral and the 6th century Benedictine Monastery. The Conversano Castle Mesagne
