Bang & Olufsen isn’t noted for following the herd. In the Danish electronics specialist’s catalogue you'll find a wheel-shaped wireless speaker, a TV that opens up like a butterfly, and an 8200-watt monolithic speaker comprising 18 drivers. Its output could reasonably be described as "innovative" – and the B&O Beosound A1 (2nd Gen) wireless speaker is no exception. Over the past few years, we’ve seen (and heard) everything from giant room-filling Bluetooth speakers to dinky travel options pass through our listening rooms, and many have impressed by offering great value for money, lengthy battery life, waterproofing and even engaging, capable audio quality. What this all translates into is vastly improved sound, and while the Sonos One was mono only, the Era 100 distinguishes itself by providing a superb stereo experience. The bass is deeper and fuller, there's more clarity and detail throughout and even at higher volume, timing is excellent and the tonal balance is wonderfully even. It's predominantly a stationary, use-at-home type of product, but the Era 100's Bluetooth connectivity gives it more flexibility in use and makes it eligible for a spot on this list. The fit and finish of the Dali Katch G2 clearly make it a designer product. Its audio output feels inhibited, especially when compared to the Cleer Scene’s fresh and unbounded audio. Audiophiles probably expect Dali Katch G2 comparisons to the Ultimate Ears Hyperboom, Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelinor the JBL Xtreme 3, but I had the Cleer Scene ready for review, and I put them to the test together. After hours of listening, I would choose to spend more hours listening to the Cleer Scene, a very affordable speaker that puts great sound within everyone’s reach.In the same way that DALI has not messed with the design fundamentals of the Katch G2, they’ve left the sound pretty much as it was too. As this very definitely didn’t need tweaking, this is unquestionably a good thing. The DALI does a few things that cumulatively add up to something rather impressive. The first is that there is an improbable amount of low end from that slim cabinet. It’s not the sort of ‘too much power for the chassis’ bass either. The DALI delivers the crunching low end of Vox Low’s Something is Wrong with an agility and lightness of touch that works beautifully.
DALI has created a first rate Bluetooth loudspeaker that needs to be very high on your audition list. I’m buying it. As you'd expect, Bluetooth speakers are wireless in that they don't require a wire to connect to an audio source; they use a Bluetooth codec. However, they don't necessarily also support wi-fi, which is a necessary feature of what we term 'wireless speakers'. A wireless speaker can connect to an audio source via the internet (i.e. wi-fi) – by way of Apple AirPlay or Google Chromecast, for example – whether or not it also has Bluetooth.

Elvis Costello sounded like Elvis Costello on the Cleer Scene but came across with a deeper, richer tone than he owns on the Dali Katch G2, even in clear mode. I don’t want my speakers to interpret my artists, (which I know they all do to an extent), but the Cleer Scene produced the Elvis Costello I want to listen to. Winner:Cleer Scene. Features The only issue is that it can start to suffer from distortion at louder volumes, but we found it to be one of the best-value options if you’re really on a tight budget. Really impressive stuff.
