The CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion is a non greasy lotion designed to retain moisture in the skin throughout the day, and keep the skin barrier healthy and strong. The key ingredients in the product are ceramides (Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP and Ceramide EOP), hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate), and glycerin. Benefits of Ceramides in Skin Care Ceramides make up to 50% of the skin and their role is in supporting the skin's natural barrier and retaining moisture. With factors such as age, pollutants and sun damage, ceramides can begin to lose their effectiveness which eventually weaken's the skin' barrier. Once your skin's barrier has been damaged, it is prone to irritation and sensitivity such as dryness, redness, wrinkles, roughness and visible signs of dehydration. Additionally, skin conditions such as eczema often have lower levels of ceramides in the skin which leads to the common symptoms of dryness and inflammation. As for skincare, it makes the skin silky smooth, creates a subtle gloss and forms a protective barrier (aka occlusive). Also, works well to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and give skin a plump look (of course that is only temporary, but still, it'snice). There are also scar treatment gels out there using dimethicone as their base ingredient. It helps to soften scars and increase their elasticity. CeraVe boasts expert recommended, non-greasy and fragrance-free skincare that respects the skin’s natural barrier. The brand’s skincare range offers products for normal to dry skin types, as well as skincare suitable for eczema and psoriasis-prone skin. The CeraVe formulas contain a unique blend of ingredients, such as:

It’s not something new: it was introduced around 1950 and today it can be used up to 1% worldwide. It can be found in nature - in green tea - but the version used in cosmetics is synthetic. CeraVeMoisturizing Creamis formulated with a number of skin-supporting ingredients, such as our three essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid, petrolatum, and dimethicone. To learn more about the skincare benefits of each of these ingredients, head to Ingredients in CeraVe. This moisturizing formula also contains MVE Delivery Technology, whichencapsulates ceramides and hydrating ingredients to ensure efficient delivery within the skin’s barrier and slow release over time (for long-lasting hydration).

CeraVe Moisturising Cream for Body and Face with Pump

A 2007 study showed thatPhytosphingosine even works againstevil acne-causing bacteria,Propionibacterium acnes and shows promise as a complementing active ingredient in treating acne-prone skin thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities. MVE Technology: This patented delivery system continually releases moisturising ingredients for 24-hour hydration It's one of the important lipids that can be found naturally in the outer layer of the skin. About 25% of the goopy stuff between our skin cells consists of cholesterol. Together with ceramides and fatty acids, they play a vital role in having a healthy skin barrier and keeping the skin hydrated. If you have normal, dry, or combination skin and you don’t suffer from acne, you may want to try the Aveeno or Vanicream lotions since they contain shea butter which is good at toning and soothing the skin. Personally, I liked the CeraVe lotion better because it has no fragrance, unlike the Aveeno and Vanicream products. Out of all five products that I compared, the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion was the only one which is fragrance free, non-comedogenic and has the seal of acceptance from the National Eczema Association.

ESSENTIAL CERAMIDES: Contains 3 essential ceramides (1, 3, 6-II) to help protect the skin’s natural barrier There are several other different skincare brands that make lotions for dry and sensitive skin. These brands are also recommended by dermatologists and contain fragrance free formulas and won’t irritate the skin. Some of the main competitors to CeraVe include Aveeno, Cetaphil, Vanicream and Eucerin. Our current one, Ceramide 1, or morerecently called CeramideEOP, was the first one that was identified in 1982 and it's a special snowflake. It contains the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid and has a unique structure. It's believed that ceramide 1 plays a "binding role" in the lipid layers of the extracellular matrix. Along with ceramides 4 and 7, they also play a vital role in epidermal integrity and serve as the main storage areas for linoleic acid (a fatty acid that's alsovery important for barrier repair). It is also believed that skin conditions such as eczema are as a result of a compromised skin barrier, and fewer ceramides in the skin.

CeraVe's MVE delivery technology: A revolutionary system which allows their skincare products to work more effectively. This 'Timed-Release' formula provides multiple phases of moisturisation to keep our skin hydrated for up to 24 hours. Applying skincare products that contain ceramides has been proven to help reduce eczema, and protect the skin barrier, reducing dryness, fine lines, wrinkles and dullness. One study from 2008 showed that using skincare products containing ceramides had a significant effect in clearing mild to moderate eczema. Not only a simple moisturizer but knows much more: keeps the skin lipids between our skin cells in a healthy (liquid crystal) state, protects against irritation, helps to restore barrier If you have dry skin like I do, CeraVe or Cetaphil are my favourite brands for producing hydrating and non-irritating skincare products. Both companies are recommended by dermatologists and have products that treat a variety of skin concerns including atopic dermatitis, dry patches, red skin, or eczema. It's a type of lipid, a so-calledsphingoid base that can be found naturally in the upper layer of the skin. It's found both in "free-form" and as part of famous skin lipids, ceramides.

Hyaluronic Acid: Helps to retain moisture in the skin, leaving the skin feeling hydrated and plump with the added benefit of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Like with ceramides, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our bodies decreases as we get older. As the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin reduces, the skin is more likely to start sagging or develop wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid also plays an important role in wound repair. MVE Technology: This delivery system continually releases moisturizing ingredients for 48-hour hydration—supporting your protective skin barrier, long after you’ve finished applying. Low-molecular-weight-HA (< 500 kDa) can hydrate the skin somewhat deeper though it is still a big molecule and works mainly in the epidermis (outer layer of the skin) Most skin types can use CeraVeMoisturizing Cream, since this formula is fragrance-free, allergy-tested, and non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog your pores). It’s also been developed with dermatologists and is accepted by the National Eczema Association. Although it can be used by most skin types, CeraVeMoisturizing Creamis especially beneficial for those with normal todry skin.
