About this deal

I thought like others it would be more like Archie Wilson & The Beasts of Loch Ness. That is one of my favourites. This is more for younger children 6-8 year olds, has many pictures, has a couple of dark moments so 6 year olds might find it heavy going. Recommend if you have kids who want an audio book to listen to in the car, this would be one to add along with Archie Wilson. Bakingemas briesmonis ir kārtīgs piedzīvojumu gabals, distopija par nākotnes Londonu, kurā varu pārņēmis ļauns vadonis. Once again the pairing of David Walliams and Tony Ross created magic. Tony Ross' amazing illustrations completely enhance this wonderful book and perfectly capture the heart and soul of David Walliams' story.

Ok, so the disclaimer; I know I am not the target audience for the book. It would probably get four stars if I were writing about its rating for a 7-11 year old. It took SO LONG for something to actually happen. David Walliams is defo not Dahl's successor, but I guess if you like Roald Dahl's work, you'll like his work too! I am a massive David Walliams fan, so I expected a lot from this book. As usual David Walliams and Tony Ross delivered the goods. But my nearly 9-year-old listened along with me and his assessment was roughly similar to mine upon finishing. He just didn't enjoy it all that much. He found it dark and depressing (though there is nothing wrong with this is general), and I'm not sure he followed it completely, whereas usually he is a very close listener. I’m sure many children will love this book but I just felt there were the foundations of so much more there. This was a Christmas present from Gran. (Thanks Gran love you). Its really way below my reading age, I would say max age 11. The story is very short, too many pictures and BOLD capital letters that are annoying. I recommend to people who are nine years old or over. It was unpredictable and an exciting read. My favourite partThis book had a great premise but unfortunately didn’t quite reach its potential. Shave off some of the WALLOPS and DOLLOPS of onomatopoeia, toilet humour and a few of the superfluous characters and focus on the strengths; namely the mythology, family ties and Alfred’s own epiphanies and this book would be a winner.

Revision Col 3 Collins at Home | Support for schools Home tutors Letts Revision Collins4Parents Collins Book Sale Revision for students I was given it as I loved Archie Wilson & The Beasts of Loch Ness . One of the best secret books, I call Archie a secret book as its really unknown the author does not appear next to Simon Cowell on Britains Got talent. That book is a classic.

While I applaud an author for broadening their range, I just didn't really like this one. While I could read Billionaire Boy or Boy in the Dress again and again, this one isn't likely to be repeated on our school runs. There is a lot to like about this book. It’s different and the concept is very topical - a dystopian vision of the future with greedy, despotic types in control of the country. And I thought that the story followed some interesting twists and turns.

David Walliams said, “This book is a real departure for me. It is a science-fiction fantasy adventure set in London one hundred years in the future. I hope my readers will love coming on this magical journey with me.” I love reading books with Erin. Us reading our bedtime story is my favourite part of the day. This book was really funny and had us laughing out loud in places. Even Raj makes an appearance! I really enjoyed it and seeing Erin enjoy a book makes me so happy. I read the book as I had read odd chapters at bedtime with my daughter but couldn’t quite get the story so told her that I would read it when she had finished it. I’m good for my word! In the dead of night something terrible stalks the corridors. When Alfred’s beloved mother the queen is dragged off to the Tower of London, the boy must summon all his courage to embark on an epic quest to save her… and the entire world. I can easily say that David Walliams is one of my favourite Middle Grade Author's, and his partnership with Tony Ross is a match made in heaven. I honestly cant wait to see what they create next.Fly into a fiery and fantastical future with No. 1 bestselling author David Walliams, in an epic adventure of myth and legend, good and evil, and one small boy who must save the world… If you have a middle grade reader in your life, you have to get them some David Walliams novels. Trust me, they will absolutely love them. In fact, why not start them off with this one. There's no time like the present. Well, this is my first David Walliams book and as I am aged 44, I suspect I am not really his target demographic. Travel forward in time for a fantastical adventure – a story of myth and legend that will enthral you right to its thrilling end.
