About this deal

Regardless of what his family life had been like growing up, he ruined and wasted years of Anna & Laura’s lives. It was hard to read how selfish and pathetic he was. And at the expense of two selfless, loving, lively women.

The characters are brought to life in a way that will leave you rooting for them. A touching tale about female friendship [and] finding strength when you need it most' GRAZIA Sono quattrocento pagine che vanno lette sino in fondo, proprio perché il finale è la somma di tutto ciò che è stato. E, a intervalli, troverete dei bellissimi sprazzi di poesia. Another Life” is Jodie Chapman’s first novel and she freely admits that Anna’s character is based on her own real life experiences and emotions as a former Jehovah Witness and how she struggled herself with the faith. Featuring grief, faith and religion, suicide, emotional abuse and fear of commitment, the author has conveyed these intense emotions delicately and with empathy.Emma Cahusac, Commissioner for BBC Arts, says: “The first series of Between The Covers sparked a national conversation about books, so I’m delighted it’s returning with another fantastic line up. Continuing BBC Arts’ commitment to books programmes, the series features a broad selection of genres and styles, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. I look forward to working my way through the reading list, and joining in the conversation on social media during each episode.” Just when I thought I understood her, she would melt away and become a completely new person, and I’d have to start all over again.

Irish News ‘You could have stopped this’ – Joe Brolly says President Joe Biden should be ‘ashamed’ by position on Israel 15:14I was devastated to finish this book. It broke my heart, and if you're a fan of Sally Rooney, Another Life is something you'll want. The characters are real, the themes of grief, family and loss are so raw. Chapman is a master' Daily Record I loved it, so glad I read it. Beautifully written, made me think about love and breaking out into a world that is completely different -- Zoey Lyons I don't want to give too much away because everyone just needs to read it. The development of each character is fantastic and you know them and their personalities inside out. Essentially, Another Life is a love story, but not the conventional kind. There’s no “fall in love & happy every after”. Oh no. We all know life gets in the way too often to allow that to happen! She wasn’t someone who’d care what they thought. I noticed that straight away. I also noticed how she introduced herself to me on my first shift. Even in the unflattering cut of the cinema uniform, she was not someone your eye would pass over. Some of the girls described her looks as crooked, and there was a certain strangeness to her face, a boldness and strength in the way the bones formed behind her alabaster skin. There was nothing petite in how her features knitted together. I’d never seen another face like hers and the subject of her attractiveness would provoke great debate in the staffroom whenever she left it. I never got involved. She looked just fine to me. We were propping open the double doors to a sold-out showing. I forget which film. As the end credits began, we each stood against a door, waiting for the audience to file out between us. ‘Hi, I’m Anna,’ she said, putting a hand out for me to shake. ‘You’re new, aren’t you?’ I think I mumbled as I took her hand. Not many nineteen-year-olds were in the habit of handshakes or introductions, but like I say, she was different. I don’t recall how I got her number, but life is made of small victories you forget.

This beautiful tale of love, loss and sacrifice will break your heart . . . With echoes of David Nicholls' One Day and Sally Rooney's novels, it perfectly captures the agony of falling in love and the razor-sharp reality of pain and loss * Daily Mail * This isn’t your typical love story. It is gut wrenching, sad, painful and honest. However, in my opinion this is the truest depiction of love there is.Another Life is so much more than a love story. It’s an exploration of grief, religion, families and expectations. These other themes add a depth to the story but none of it would have been so gripping if I didn’t care about the characters so much.

I cannot recommend this book enough. I would go as far as to say this is the best book I have ever read. I know it will always have a special place in my heart. In each episode, Sara Cox and her guests review some of the most exciting new and recent book releases, as well as sharing their own reading secrets. Which great books on The Big Jubilee Read list are up for discussion on the new series of Between the Covers? 14 splendid reads for a Jubilee summer I’m always worried when a book is described as “the new” whatever. The links to previously loved stories inevitably leave a person disappointed. In this sense I feel sorry for Jodie Chapman because her book was described as “the new One Day” which kind of give it unfair expectations to live up to. One day was such a well loved and well known book that it is an impossible standard to reach.Jobs Revealed: The professions that will see 15pc pay hikes in year ahead as other salaries stay flat Fast forward and they've long ago gone their separate ways. Inhabiting different worlds. Shaped by the hurt they bear. Yet neither can quite forget the other. This book broke me in the best way. A heart wrenching portrait . . . It feels a bit like if One Day had been written by Sally Rooney' 5***** READER REVIEW
