The milk we bottle for you will come from cows who have never received antibiotic treatments. Antibiotics are only used when necessary and if this is the case, the cow’s milk is withdrawn from customer consumption entirely and will be fed to our calves. This ‘zero antibiotic’ status was achieved in 2020. Antibiotic resistance is a growing concern for all and this farming standard at Acorn Dairy reassures our customers, who are choose our milk, because they feel it is healthier for them. Its own brand butter was recently named the ‘Best Dairy Butter’ option in the UK by Ethical Consumer Magazine, a publication which ranks consumer products based on factors including environmental impact, animals, politics, product sustainability and company ethos.

The three-day open event, in aid of St Teresa’s Hospice, saw visitors given the grand tour of the land, aboard a tractor and trailer, the feed sheds and milking parlour. Acorn’s 500-strong herd of predominantly shorthorn cross breeds offers a natural rate of milk production which is less than in an intensive farming system, allowing the cows to live longer, happier and healthier lives.
