About this deal

Nail polish remover, whether it contains acetone or is acetone-free , works perfectly well to remove regular nail polish, but does not have a high enough concentration of solvent to properly remove acrylics, dip powder, shellac and gel nails. For these types of manicures, you need acetone.

Acetone is the most popular solvent used in nail polish remover because it works the best at removing nail polish. Simple as that. As a true earth-friendly product, it’s also readily biodegradable. And yet: it can even remove gel nail polish! Don’t be fooled by thinking that just because it doesn’t have acetone, it’s not drying to your nails. Acetone is a chemical that’s often produced in nature – for example by trees. Acetone is also produced and disposed of in the human body, as part of our metabolic processes. As such, acetone is normally present in blood and urine.Effective and Non-AbrasiveThis non-acetone nail polish remover efficiently removes nail polish while going easy on the nail surface. Nail polish remover is not strong enough to remove SNS nails properly so they will require filing and scraping to fully remove. This is where the damage will be done. You must be very well aware of the feeling of removing your favorite nail color from your nails while the strong acetone smell fills the air. However, if that pungent smell isn’t something you particularly look forward to, then the best non-acetone nail polish removers can work wonders for you. This effective nail polish remover effectively removes all nail polishes, not just the Karma Organic brand. However, do note that it doesn’t work on gel nail polish or acrylic-treated nails. Among the experts we polled, soy nail polish removers tended to be the favorite. They work in similar ways to acetone, containing mixtures of light, non-greasy oils that act as a solvent to dissolve color from your nails. They don’t work as fast (you sometimes have to let the oils sit for a minute or so before rubbing), but because they’re oil-based, they offer more hydration. Jane MacColla, founder of Lower East Side non-toxic nail salon Hortus Nailworks, recommends this one. “We love it because it’s non-drying, super effective in removing polish, and biodegradable.” She does advise that people wash their hands and nails thoroughly to remove all oils and residue before applying polish, and adds that soy-based removers cannot remove gel polish.

Regular nail polish remover is made from acetone and/or ethyl acetate. These chemicals are cheap to produce and do the job effectively. On the downside, it does contain palm oil. However, Zao says that this has been sustainably sourced. It also contains mica. I’m not big on mica. It’s a common ingredient in beauty products, yet is linked to forced child labour. However, again, Zao says that they only use certified ethically sourced mica. Some non-acetone nail polish removers can be used to remove ink marks and scuffs on car paint. Test it in a small, hidden area of surfaces to make sure it doesn’t cause damage before wiping it over the stain.

All good things must come to an end — including your manicure. But removing nail polish can be a pain, regardless of the polish you use. Plus, if you use acetone-based nail polish remover, it can be rough on your nails, leaving your nail beds and cuticles dry and dull. The good news is that there are a number of acetone-free formulas on the market, many of which are infused with nourishing plant-based extracts and vitamins that moisturize nails and help maintain nail health. And as a bonus, they don't have the overpowering smell of acetone-based polish removers. Benecos Natural’s certified organic natural nail polish remover is acetone-free. Instead, it uses natural organic orange peel oil and organic lavender oil to naturally and gently remove natural nail polish from your nails.
