About this deal

Even if it’s only been in that enclosed pot for a few weeks, it’s too late and the damage to the root system may already be done. We advise that a round pot or grow-bag cultivated Eucalyptus is never planted out in the ground to prevent it becoming a liability. Eucalyptus with badly trained roots can die in the cold or fall over in high winds. May has been unbelievable for tomatoes here: perfect temps, plenty of sun, not too cold at night. Not so good for things needing rain – onions needing lots of watering, ditto turnips, spinach, lettuce etc. First, chit (sprout) the seed potatoes by placing them in egg boxes and positioning them in a warm sunny place for a few days. Next, fill your containers to about a third of its depth with a general compost. For a 30 litre container place one seed potato in the centre. For a 40 litre or bigger container, place 3 seed potatoes, evenly spaced. Cover the seed potatoes with compost so that two thirds of the container is now full. As the emerging plants get bigger, add more compost until the container is full to within 2.5cm of the top. Apply water regularly and feed the plants with fish, blood and bone or a proprietary potato fertiliser. As valid, and long winded, as these points may be, they don’t get to the heart of the matter. Better growing methods mean you can use smaller pots

The Air Pipe

seed potatoes yielded 3.5lb (1.6kg) of potatoes from the same amount of compost etc. Many of these were smaller than a golf ball, although there were some larger ones. There were a lot of pea sized, inedible ones. A variety with a large leaf area will require a bigger pot (in theory) because it will lose more moisture through its leaves and therefore require a larger soil area from which to obtain water. I did come across an article last year which tried a few different things inc different number of potatoes in each bag and using small vs large seed potatoes etc. Please note the above guide is for illustration purposes only and are not sized proportionally to one another. We were delighted to be voted the UK's best supplier of plug plants by readers of Gardening Which Magazine in the March 2021 issue. Read more Join our Team

YouGarden - Heavy Duty 30L Plant Pots (Pack of 3) 40cm

A tomato grower who uses basic potting compost, a traditional pot and waters whenever the soil seems dry, will need a bigger pot to achieve good results than someone who gives their plants exactly what they need – when they need it. The extra soil in a larger pot acts as a buffer zone or safety net! Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. Containers vs Garden Border Soil

If you can’t plant your tree in the ground right now, or want to stand it on a patio or want to be able to move it, then dressing the Air Pot by placing it inside a decorative patio pot is a great idea. See our info on this here.

Large Pots with Handles | Optional Saucers | 30L-130L Sizes

This particular range of large plant pots have handles fitted to the top rim of the pot. Making them easy to move and transport when needed. The fact is, the better the growing methods used (i.e. growing media, type of container and access to water and nutrients), the smaller the container size that is required for a successful crop. Air Pots were invented in Australia during the 1970’s specifically for Eucalyptus. The clever engineering of the pot is designed to produce a safe and stable, radial root system – a bit like a baby’s bottle brush, with roots trained to emante from the root crown in a 360 degree formation. Not only does the unique pot shape prevent root circling (to which Eucalyptus are prone), but also promotes a healthy growing environment for your leafy friend. Eucalyptus grown in traditional smooth walled pots are a liability. The smooth walled pot has trained them to grow an unstable, congested and circular shaped root-system, which stays with them for life. These corkscrew-rooted Eucalyptus trees should only ever be grown to a maximum height of 10 feet (3m) as they are apt to fall over when around 20 years old or at the very least develop a nasty lean. Air-root-pruned Eucalyptus is the only way grow a successful specimen. Do not plant a Eucalyptus in the ground that has been grown in a traditional smooth-walled pot or grow-bag as the roots will not be stable. For large containers which will hold multiple plants, it is important to give each plant as much room to grow as possible so avoid placing the potatoes too close to each other.PROFESSIONAL QUALITY - Frequently used by professional growers. Perfect for those summer additions - from using with wigwams for peas and beans to strawberries, tomatoes and potatoes. Sometimes the pot design does differ if a different supplier is used but pot quality will not be compromised. Airpot containers come in a huge range of sizes, so we can provide really large trees for sale or you can grow a tree in a larger pot at home.
