Using HDMI ARC does not require a new HDMI cable. Any HDMI cable should be able to cope with the requirements – it’s only when we move on to eARC that this could (potentially) become an issue. But more on that later. If you've heard of HDR, you know it's a technology built into content and televisions that allows for expanded contrast and color in video, creating far more attractive visuals.
Put simply, different HDMI cables can transmit different values. These values are the video and audio quality which are transferred from the HDMI cable to the screen. An HDMI cable will have a trapezoid-shaped connector on either end of the wire. This connector will have 16 tiny pins that will be used to transmit the digital signal to your TV or monitor. HDMI cables will have the same connector on both ends of the wire. All those extra pixels – six times that of standard 4K video – require greater bandwidth to send the information across. HDMI 2.1 cables are up to the task, with an upper limit of 48Gbps (Gigabits per second) rather than 18Gbps. Essentially, HDMI 2.1 has the capability to double-down on what HDMI 2.0 can manage. 2.1-standard connections can easily outstrip the 4K limit, sending a maximum of 10K content at 120fps down the pipe. Enhanced Audio Return Channel (also known as eARC) is the next generation of ARC. And it's an added bonus if it has a great warranty like the Monoprice cables. How is a single optical audio cable more of a "messy solution" than a single HDMI cable? HDMI cables can deteriorate over time. If you're plugging and unplugging the cable consistently, it will wear down faster, and HDMI cables made of better materials last longer. Eventually, though, HDMI cables will become faulty.It wasn’t until 2009 that the HDMI ARC protocol was added to the spec sheet. It was introduced as part of HDMI version 1.4 and has been part of the specification ever since. What is ARC? The result is a delayed output of a video signal relative to an audio signal, and the result of that mismatch is sound that (oh-so-frustratingly) doesn’t match the timing of your picture. HDMI 2.1 will make it possible for TVs to talk in real time to A/V receivers, soundbars, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and other source devices to ensure your video and audio are in perfect sync all the time.
