What people do not seem to understand about TRVs, is that they control a room or zone - to be effective DOORS MUST BE CLOSED! And in addition, the room containing the thermostat should usually have (the door closed and) the TRV fully open. If not, say the room with the stat has the stat set higher than the TRV, then the called heat is never reached (TRV turns off the radiator too soon) and other areas of the house may (usually because doors are open) get too hot, the boiler runs on etc. which is wasteful. As you can see, a lot relies on having to force/override the existing Hive thermostat to do the call for heat to turn the boiler on, as without this, no hot water will be pumping round the system regardless of what the TRV’s want to do. Another thing I noticed is that when turning on the heat the valves were only opening halfway (40% sometimes 60%) and it would start regulating from there (slow). To counter this issue, I have some automations in place where I set the preset to boost when the preset goes from eco to comfort. Meaning that when the heat is turned on the valves open at 100% after a preset time the regulation starts, this time it starts at 100% not at half way. Zigbee2Tasmota (Z2T) supports a wide variety of Zigbee MCUs from Texas Instruments (CC253X, CC26x2, CC13x2) and from Silicon Labs (EFR32MG12/EFRMG21), and runs on ESP8266 or any variant of ESP32. Since ESP8266 has very limited resources, we strongly advise to prefer ESP32 based Zigbee gateways.

Hi, nice article. Is there a way to reset to factory? I have some issues, the main is that valve goes to full open, even if room temperature is higher than desired. I think I did something wrong in the first config, but now I can't remove to reconfigure. Help please!

If any of the TRV’s report their current temp as lower than 19.5, switch on the boiler via the Hive thermostat control (climate.set_temperature). But, because of Hive’s own thermostat, it uses this to determine when to call for heat from the boiler. So, I think I would need to artificially set the Hive thermostat to something higher, say 25, so that it initiates that call for heat. A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is a self-regulating valve fitted to hot water heating system radiator, to control the temperature of a room by changing the flow of hot water to the radiator. The other issue Ive found is every week or 2 it would go bonkers and lose control and fully close the valve and greatly overshoot. Goggle it, it's common regardless of platform. zigbee-herdsman-converters:tuyaThermostat: Unrecognized DP #119 with data {"status":0,"transid":187,"dp":119,"datatype":0,"fn":0,"data":{"type":"Buffer","data":[1,0,0]}} By default the coordinator does not accept new devices unless put in pairing mode. When in pairing mode, it will accept pairing requests from any device within range.

I’m curious if these, or any TRV controllers could be used to adjust the knob on a baseboard heater. In this situation a firmware update made the device unable to connect to the Zigbee network. As of Zigbee2MQTT 1.33.3 all OTA updates for this device have been disabled, if you are running an older Zigbee2MQTT version it is recommended to not do any OTA updates. # OTA updates Assuming these are zigbee (and not wifi) controlled devices, you can usually get away from the requirement of using any 3rd party hubs or integrations at all, as long as HA can pair with it then operate it correctly.A Zigbee device will continue to connect to a coordinator unless you ask it to "leave" or if you change the network configuration (change of PanID or network key - which means losing ALL devices). At Zigbee start, all files with *.zb suffix are loaded into memory. Be careful of not saturating memory, especially on ESP8266. Zigbee device plugin format ~ Eco temperature. Value can be found in the published state on the eco_temperature property. It's not possible to read ( /get) this value. To write ( /set) a value publish a message to topic zigbee2mqtt/FRIENDLY_NAME/set with payload {"eco_temperature": NEW_VALUE}. The minimal value is 5 and the maximum value is 35. The unit of this value is °C. # Max temperature (numeric)
