About this deal

Foil: The women in Tony's life tend to serve as both Greek chorus and conscience to him, as well as highlighting his darker flaws. His scenes with Carol and Alex, as well as Angelica, Maggie, Laura, and Kate, all serve to contrast him with them. Exposition Victim: Tony is the very worst at this. When he gets cornered by a psychotic killer about to torture him to death, his first priority seems to be figuring out why, rather than trying to defend himself. That this is completely in-character for Tony, of all people, makes this a rather unconventional use of this trope. The fact that questioning the killer, getting into their head and manipulating them is the one way Tony is likely to survive gives us quite a few Moments Of Awesome. Robson Green was terrific as Tony Hill, a very original character, one it's hard not to like, quirky, but sincere and smart.

Tony is faced with a series of deadly puzzles when a killer rapes and strangles young female victims in Bradfield, but chooses to dress and identify them as young women he killed several years before in Europe. Why is he boasting to police about his past, leaving the bodies where they can easily be found? And why—and how—is he choosing confident, successful victims from the world of business, and killing them in Bradfield? There is often tension between Tony and members of the police in the fictional town of Bradfield: Many don't trust his methods, others are put off by his manner. Sometimes Tony himself manages to get himself suspected of a major crime. The phrase ‘the wire in the blood’ comes from T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets. – ‘The trilling wire in the blood ⁄ sings below inveterate scars ⁄ appeasing long-forgotten wars.’ Based on Val McDermid’s best selling novel The Last Temptation, “ Falls the Shadow” sees a confused Tony named as the main suspect when an Experimental Psychologist’s mutilated body is discovered in her hotel room, with Dr Hill’s blood and fingerprints all over the crime scene. The novel has the same compelling combination of sexual-political mischief and Jacobean psychological intensity that earned the author the crime novel of the year award for The Mermaids Singing. D.C.I. Carol Jordan ( Hermione Norris) (Series 1–3) is a hardworking officer who forms a close relationship with Tony, successfully working with him to secure the arrest of several killers. In series two's "Right to Silence", Carol is promoted from Detective Inspector to Detective Chief Inspector. Although the two soon grow close, they never achieve the romantic relationship that Carol desires with Tony and in the end, Carol leaves Bradfield to take a position in South Africa. Speaking of Norris's portrayal of Carol Jordan, Val McDermid said that she "brings real intelligence and insight to her role, demonstrating that there's a lot more to her skills than we got to see in Cold Feet." Bradfield is in panic as someone preys on its most vulnerable—its hospital patients. Carol must juggle how to warn the public, and how to keep a predatory MI5 official at bay. The only way out is to solve the case fast—but there is very little to go on, even for Tony. He clenched his eyes momentarily against the memories that always stalked on the edge of his consciousness, waiting for him to drop his guard and let them in. That was another reason why he slept badly. The thought of what his dreams could do to him was no enticement to drift away and hand control over to his subconscious. I have been seeing quite a lot of this show on TV lately and i find it surprisingly entertaining. Surprisingly because i'm usually no fan at all of the serial-killer genre nor the kind of grisly imagery that this show always provides. But the gratuitous images and the worn-out theme aside this show has a lot to offer. I watched all 6 seasons and 24 episodes. I rather enjoy dark, gruesome mysteries and Wire in the Blood isn't just that, it's also intense, VERY INTENSE! As well a graphic.Just Between You and Me: happens occasionally, usually when the killer feels the need to brag or let the victim know exactly how he's going to suffer. Notably in "right to silence" Tony turns this into an Engineered Public Confession. Filming took place from 22 October 2001 to 14 February 2002 in various locations around Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham and Northumberland, including Bollyhope Quarry (Durham), Chopwell Woods (Gateshead) and Eshott Hall (Northumberland) which was used for the Vance residence. Includes Prayer of the Bone – 2008 feature length special filmed in Texas, USA – Also available individually from 30 November 2009. The scriptwriting doesn't really live up to the characters in my opinion, but it's decent enough. Considering that i have read several of Val McDermids novels and liked none of them the writing in this series far exceeded my expectations. McDermids writing is simplistic and unimaginative in my opinion and the only real aspects from the novels that has been transferred to this show is the gratuitous nature of the crimes.
