About this deal

Many people are not clear about it, but curiously the cables really are very decisive when it comes to completing the sound that you like and in this case the synergy is magical. The change of cable was self-evident. My dear Van Den Hul First Ultimate was not suitable at all, too soft, with the midrange slightly in evidence, it works wonders with transistor electronics, but not here. I mounted a NEOTECH NEI-3001 MKIII cable with RCA KLEI PURE22 HARMONY connectors and the result is magnificent! great transparency, very rich in harmonics, natural, pure tones, never hard nor pressed. The Elekit does not sound like a tube amplifier, it is not warm like the Willsenton. It is somewhere between a neutral tube amplifier and a transistor amplifier. Here are some tubes that I have received from valvesnmore. I do NOT wish to get into an argument about this, but be that as it may, may all of us find reliable sources for all the tubes we are seeking, wherever that source may be from. I know what you mean about chasing the dragon. However, I'm 74 and retired. Listening to music and trying gear is my hobby. At least, that is what I tell myself when the dragon appears PS. Many thanks to Steve Huff for allowing me to discover this wonderful Wellington tube amplifier:

Agree with every point that you made. However only so much can be accomplished for a given price target. I have no doubt that your 300b is superior in numerous ways, but no way could it sell for only1500.00 USD either. The sound is described by some as “romantic” because of this big sound that is welcoming, warm and with 3D qualities. I have no doubt that your 300b amplifier will be a fantastic product. Best wishes to you. The 300b properly implemented is superb sounding.

The other tube amps I have to compare are Muzisahre X7, X9, X10, R100 300B 845, and past Willsenton R8 and Icon Audio Stereo 40 IV owner. Two 5U4G vacuum tubes are used for high-voltage rectification. 1pcs of 6SL7 and 2pcs of 6SN7 vacuum tubes are used for the voltage amplifier and preamp stage. The power amplifier stage uses two Willsenton custom-made 300B vacuum tubes for single-end Class A power amplification. I had read that on another forum but it seems that Willsenton makes its amplifiers in the same factory as Cayin. There are many similarities. But there are also differences. We see clearly more components at Cayin and perhaps, some components more high-end. The Cayin also has a weight of 6 pounds more, probably transformers a little more imposing. Again, with Klipsch Heritage this amp weaves its magic with a big expansive soundstage and a warmth and glow about it. If you own Klipsch you will need to hear this amp!Now my main equipment is made up of a Marantz HD DAC1, by the way also because of you, then some floorstandings of my beloved Castle Knight 5 brand -91db- and most of the cables of this equipment are from the ODIN brand. I think I’ve wasted a lot of time looking for the sound that interests me and I’ve finally found it, I say finally because at 72 I’ve already played enough. I mainly use air gap and vacuum caps for the most important components, such as RIAA compensation. For amps, I usually use styrene.

Hence, when Walter Wannabe audiophool swaps out ReallyGoodMatch for BigFatSilver caps, he is altering his entire system and any perceived change, improvement or not is only valid for his system. What really caught my attention in this Klipch review is the fact that Jay's has also tested many amplifiers, all of which are excellent, including the much more expensive and powerful Willsenton R800i. And yet, with these particular speakers in any case, it's the Willsenton R300 that he recommends. He calls it an exceptional match. In respect to the R800i (805 version), you have almost 50W RMS per channel on tap with no switch between triode and ultra linear mode. This is because the R800i (either version) is a class A design, whereas the R8 is a push/pull class A/B design. So whether you choose the R8 or the R800i (either design, although specifically the 805 rather than the 845 version - 48W vs 23W), you should be fine. Tonight the Willsenton is really starting to open up. A new amplifier, new tubes and a new modulation cable, that's a lot and takes a little time. Be a little patience and you will be rewarded with music you never thought possible with money you invested in this SET amp. This is another reason I had to try the Willsenton as it was 1/3 the price and if it was quiet and brought that 300B sound I knew it would be a keeper. A no brainer. Lots of good info already post. Parts are not that expensive so have at it. If it was me, I would use the V-Cap ODAM as my first choice and see if that floats your boat. We use them exclusively in our designs. We have also use the copper Milflex with good results. One of the best comments above is space. Be sure to look at the size specs first to make sure things fit in. Audio Note and Nichicon capacitors are excellent and so are the non-magnetic Audio Note resistors. Things get a little pricey but if you doing the labor that is a cost savings there. Last especially for tube equipment, look for AC filter chokes and other chokes to replace capacitors, etc. All parts have sound but to me, chokes are a big benefit plus a lot cheap! For information, I currently own an Elekit TU-8200 SE amplifier of 8 watts too. But the little Elekit uses 6L6 tubes and is not comparable with the Willsenton. The speakers are Totem Sttaf of 88 db, so, not very sensitive and the 8 watts are very sufficient for me, without any problem and with a listening level already likely to disturb my dear neighbors if I wanted, which is not at all the case The 300B tube does indeed have a special characteristic. The sound usually has a plump mid and upper midrange and a big wooly bass on the bottom end. Not loose bass, but big wide open bass. Sometimes the top end is slightly rolled off as well. Slightly.
