About this deal

Would you recommend the DX3 Pro+ ESS over the K5 Pro ESS, even when one has no use for the Bluetooth? Those are options, but not the "best" ones. There are many excellent DACs, headphone amps, and DAC/amp combos on the market that are reasonably priced and would work for your DT 990 Pro's. Once you start insisting on a response that really stops at fs/2 but cannot afford increased filter length (which in turn affects latency), you are paying the price in reduced bandwidth (F2) or higher in-band periodic ripple (F1, F3). F3 still is a decent filter, but I don't think it's the best tradeoff in a practical audio application.

Great recommendations! The Audio-Technica ESW-9 has to be my favorite out of of this list of recommendations with the Bowers & Wilkins P5 coming in close second. I do see these Marshall headphones receiving some talk lately and even my local Best Buy has started carrying some. I’ll have to try them out sometime. Great list once again! Actually K5Pro ESS has lower measured power at 32 Ohm (1W) and much worse signal to noise ratio (81 dB vs 117dB for DX3 Pro+). From my subjective point of view Topping is also better made and sounds better. It is also less expensive. So practically there is no reason to choose Fiio. Good sound, double outputs, volume control, bass boost and MQA. The EarMen Colibri has it all and as a result it receives our Recommended Buy award. DX3 Pro is using XMOS XU208 + 2 x AK4493 + OPA1612 to support up to 32bit768kHz PCM decoding and DSD512 native decoding of USB input. Besides, DX3 Pro has 2 x Coaxial and 1 x Optical input which support up to 24bit192kHz PCM decoding. DX3 Pro also has bluetooth input which support SBC, ACC, APTX, APTX-II, APTX-HD transmission.

The overall balanced signature of the DX3 Pro+ allows the staging to breathe without any specific regions competing against one another with only an honest reproduction that moves far or near depending on the song. Layering could be better but the 1.8W amplifier is helping in the dynamics. DAC So yes, this DAC/AMP goes directly in my recommendation list, and if you’re out for a dongle DAC , you should definitely try this one first, or at least add it to your list. At the front of the device is the LED display with vibrant orange lit bottom section used to show most of the information about the unit and a cool-blue lit top portion which shows the active input selected. This is an improvement over the LDAC version’s all orange display but I still would have preferred a less eye-catching color to match the clean look. Designing some of the best DACs and AMPs in terms of cost-to-benefit ratio are these products. Dedicated engineers and audiophiles make up their R&D team. In addition, they have made significant investments in the most up-to-date audio testing equipment, such as the Audio Precision APx555.

The switch from ESS to AKM has provided relief from intermodulation distortion that we have been seeing in so many DACs. Yes, there is a slight rise in noise as levels get down, impacting linearity measurements. That is a very worthwhile trade off in my book and I am glad Topping has made the change. The silver color reviewed here has a very sleek appeal with four fairly tall feet holding the unit upright giving a floating effect that further accentuates the polish of the metal. I had issues with the Zen Dac V2 not working when my computer would awake from sleep. Resolved that with a USB2.0 driver and plugging it into a USB2.0 port. I also had to plug-in an external power supply because driven by the USB, my PC would freeze randomly for 5-10 seconds. After Moonriver 2, Kato, and Variations, I had big expectations and it is quite pleasing to say that my expectations were met. The Dawn offers excellent sound quality, and great build and design. It has a compact and portable form factor and has enough juice to drive almost anything you’d need on the go. phones: AKG K275, Meze 99 Noir, Philips SHE3590, Sony MDR-EX110, Sony MH750, Sony MH755, Tin HiFi T2, Tin HiFi T4, BLON BL-03, Pioneer SE-CH5BL, CCA C12In the digital-to-analogue conversion arena, it has proven difficult to find faults in TOPPING DACs for some time. THD+N measurements have been steadily improving over time. That doesn’t, however, imply that DACs like the DX3 Pro+ lose their musicality or charm. Treble just continues what has been started by the midrange. Airy, crispy, neutral and pretty direct. A lot of late devices by other companies tend to focus mainly on clarity and detail retreival, and the Topping DX3 Pro isn’t any different. Power is provided through a small switching power supply (double the size of typical phone chargers). All of my testing was performed using the provided power supply. For the design section of our Topping DX3 Pro+ Review we found it is similar to the D10 series with a few design changes, despite the fact that they all have a similar shape and size.
