About this deal

For more creative writing stories and activities look at Don't Read This Book! and This is Not a Bedtime Story. I love how this was not your typical princess getting saved by the prince story! The illustrations were a wonderful addition to the story! Full House Theatre’s new show is about to explode onto the New Wolsey stage, bringing the bestselling picture book to life. The whole family will enjoy laugh-out-loud comedy, cool puppets, sing-along pop anthems and a dazzling larger-than-life dragon. Miss 3 and I like to explore different books at the library and try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors. But when Princess Sue's prince finally does arrive, he's not quite what she had in mind. Find out how the feisty princess escapes the clutches of her twit of a prince in this funny, feminist twist on the traditional princess tale. Forget about pretty dresses, fairytale weddings and grand balls, Princess Sue is all about adventure, mischief and making unusual friends. She really is the worst princess!

At the start we meet Princess Sue, who is waiting in a tower for her prince. She knows how fairytales work! When he finally shows up Sue is glad to finally get out of the tower, but her joy is short lived when he puts her in another tower. When she sees a dragon approach, she takes destiny in her own hands. With a funny rhyming text by Anna Kemp and delightfully humorous illustrations by 2011 Booktrust Best New Illustrator Sara Ogilvie, this entertaining picture book offers a refreshingly tongue-in-cheek spin on the conventional fairy tale princess. The theme of this book is gender stereotypes. Princess Sue is expected to wear pretty dresses, twirl her hair, and sit in a tower all day. Instead, she simply wants to cut off her hair and go out into the world to find adventure. When she tells the prince this, he tells her that she is the worst princess and that she must do as she is told. Another theme in this book is that it’s an alternative fairy tale. Princess Sue breaks from the typical fairy tale because she does not stay with the prince. Instead, this book ends with Princess Sue breaking free from the princess stereotype and making her own happily ever after. Obviously, this is very different from the typical princess fairy tale. The rhyming. Sometimes, rhyming in children’s books drives me nuts, especially when the rhyming is forced and unnecessary. In this one, the rhyming was fun and added nicely to the story. An empowering picture book from the brilliant author Anna Kemp, with illustrations by Sara Ogilive, illustrator of The Detective Dog – perfect for fans of Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World, Princess Smartypants , Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls and Ada Twist, Scientist.Taking a stab at all those other princesses, The Worst Princess decided she didn’t much care for the truth of the life she thought was for her, and, in fact, it didn’t turn out anything like she thought it would be. After the romance wore off and the stars faded from her eyes, the reality was much more harsh. If that sounds like a peculiar plot on which to base a whole movie, that's because it is. But that's exactly what happens to Snow White after the Evil Queen's Magic Mirror declares her the "fairest one of them all." Vanity is one of the seven deadly sins, so the numerical significance of Snow White's new crew of friends is probably lost on no one, but the fact that this film so heavily demonizes its central women into being creatures of pure narcissism is problematic in and of itself. It might also prove to be great gift idea to a friend of north-of-teen-years as a post-break-up lifter-upper. Just had to throw that out there. I can think of a few times it would’ve been appropriate for a twenty-something.

Being one's own person is what makes a princess stand out from the rest, like Merida, the main character of Brave who wants to live life on her terms. Yet, just because one want's to be their own person doesn't mean turning their overbearing mother into a bear. I think this book is great. It is a change of pace from the normal fairy tale stories. The author does a great job of creating a story that is interesting and different. The reader wouldn't get the plot of the book by looking at the cover. Using paints, make hand prints on some paper. While the hand prints are drying, draw and decorate a dragon picture. Once your hand prints have dried, cut them out and add them to your picture. You could make them flames coming out the dragons mouth or put them on the body as dragon scales. Updated by Ajay Aravind on July 25, 2023: Disney is mega-popular, and its princesses are almost synonymous with the company. Fans can't wait to see what this legendary animation company does next. Unfortunately, as with most things in the spotlight, Disney princesses have received their fair share of criticism. As such, we've revamped this list with even more information about the worst Disney princesses.

Feisty Sue is not your everyday fairy tale superstar, in fact she’s THE WORST PRINCESS. After being rescued by her twit of a prince she’s ready to start her happy end. But first she’ll have to befriend a dragon, escape from a tower and set the prince’s pants on fire with her new fire-breathing bestie. Will Sue find her happily ever after? An empowering picture book from the brilliantpair who brought you modern classic Dogs Don’t Do Ballet, author Anna Kemp and illustrator Sara Ogilive. Perfect for fans of Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World, Princess Smartypants , Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls and Ada Twist, Scientist. She did kiss the prince though and did run off with him to his house before later calling him a twit and deserting him. So were they married? I'm not sure.
