About this deal

One of the Team is at a wedding on New Year’s Eve when the brides sister goes missing. DI Walker is called in to investigate a suspected murder and he begins to question the wedding guests to identify suspects. But while The Winter Killer is a highly enjoyable book, what's let me down is the title, as it always annoys me when a thriller is promoted as being more sinister than it actually is. Because for me, there definitely wasn't enough winter or killing. Since common winter weeds and invasive grasses can be easily spotted when the grass is dormant, spot-spraying is a practical approach for herbicide application. This is another great thriller by the author. What should have been the best day of her life, Libby's wedding turns into a murder investigation. All the potential suspects are her wedding guests. This is a fast paced, gripping read with plenty of twist and turns. DI James Walker and his team know they won't be spending the New Year holidays the way they had planned. I was pulled into this story at the beginning, and it held my attention throughout. This series gets better with each new book. This book could be read as a standalone.

Winter Fertiliser and Moss Killer Using Iron Sulphate as a Winter Fertiliser and Moss Killer

Full of twists and turns with everyone a suspect, the story takes an interesting look at family dynamics along with the complexities and intricacies of relationships between friends and lovers. Blame and guilt emerge as key issues in the search for the killer with resentments and distrust at the forefront. Special thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK Audio, Avon, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I was totally hooked’ NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good points: I enjoyed the crime element of this book and the ever changing plot and new developments. It certainly keeps you guessing. The plot was really gripping and interesting and unusual. I haven't read a thriller based around a wedding before. Vinegar contains acetic acid that is deadly to weeds. Usually, the vinegar we use in our homes contains only 5% of this acid, which isn’t enough to get the job done. This is why many people say that vinegar doesn’t work for killing weeds.

And with tremendous pacing, appealing characters and lots of detail. This was a really enjoyable read and introduction to the series. Which I'm definitely going to read more from including the two books I've missed out on. If you're into mystery, crime and detailed police procedural story, then you can give this one a try.

The Winter Killer by Alex Pine – Sarah in Readerland ARC Review: The Winter Killer by Alex Pine – Sarah in Readerland

This is the third book in the DI James Walker series and I loved the first two so I was super excited to read this one! I really liked the softer side to James’ character in this book where he has become a Father and it was nice to travel outside of Kirkby Abbey into the beautiful setting of Lake Windermere. Walker and his wife, Annie relocated to the small, remote Kirkby Abbey and it's a big change from London where Walker worked for the Met. Annie was born in Kirkby Abbey. There is never a dull moment in this dark and atmospheric story and I was riveted from start to finish. The characters are solidly drawn, lending credibility to the festive mystery/ thriller. I look forward to seeing more of DI Walker in future instalments. The ending also feels a bit rushed, I wish it was a bit more fleshed out cause I would like to know more of what happen next. Some people have found covering the lawn with mulch is an excellent way of controlling weeds during winter.

Overview: This was a great festive read with my reading buddy. I read the first two books in this series last December so was excited to see that this came out last month. As usual I didn't guess the killer. I never do with these books because the author is very clever at throwing numerous red herrings and constantly throwing new suspects into the mix. It’s definitely a tiresome project, but it can offer a permanent solution to your weed problems when done right. This is also sold as Moss Killer. It is just a sulphate of iron and as such will cause no growth therefore being an ideal treatment to enhance the lawn without worrying about whether or not conditions are right for mowing. Just make sure the grass on your lawn has completely turned brown before spraying non-selective herbicides.

A wedding couldn’t be more beautiful in an idyllic winter setting. But unfortunately, the ending is splashed by murder.

The Winter Killer is the third book of DI James Walker series. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far and this one was no exception as we have a murder, lies and so many twists and turns! Spraying selective herbicides is a practical approach to killing winter weeds. Using the winter weed and feed products also helps to kill the weed and strengthen the soil content. For an eco-friendly approach, try spraying a vinegar-based or citrus-based solution on the weeds several times to kill the plants. The most chilling crime thriller you’ll read this winter, perfect for fans of Catherine Cooper’s The Chaletand Simon McCleave’s The Snowdonia Killings– and anyone who prefers their mince pies with a side of murder.

However, perennial weeds such as dandelions can pose a challenge since they live on through their roots. If you’re looking to kill dandelions, please understand they cannot be eradicated by spraying the flowers only. You need repetitive application of vinegar to weaken them, which will eventually kill them. Make sure you get the entire root to prevent the weeds from growing from what is left underneath. However, it’s not practical to pull weeds with your hands or a tool, especially if you’re dealing with a huge lawn. DI James Walker and his team return in The Winter Killer, third in this excellent police procedural series by talented author Alex Pine. DC Jessica Abbott and her fiancé Sean are attending the glamorous New Year’s Eve wedding of Libby Elliott and Greg Murphy, owner of the luxury lakefront hotel where the wedding takes place. When Rachel, Libby’s sister and maid of honor, disappears during the the reception, a search begins. DC Abbott is in charge, joined by DI Walker when clues leading to a grim discovery are found. Rachel has drowned in the lake after receiving a head injury. Abbott and Walker must deal with the grieving family, over-served wedding guests, and the bleak and snowy Cumbrian winter. A fast-paced gripping read with plenty of twists and turns. This series just gets better and better!’ NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
