We retain unconscious memories from before that age, however. “I mean, I don’t consciously remember my father liking Tubular Bells, but, when I mentioned it to an old friend, who knew him very well, she said: ‘Oh, he loved that, he bought the album, he played it all the time.’ Somewhere in my unconscious, I had made that association, without any direct knowledge that he liked it.” Music wraps you up and comforts you and holds you in a way that not many things do Prof Catherine Loveday

I love you, he says. I’ll see you on Friday. My father holds my little chin in his hand. And then he says the thing that has stayed with me for the rest of my life: “Let me know who gets to No 1.” Trying to decipher REM’s lyrics and world led her to a wider cultural exploration embracing photography and Americana. And we all have our own version of this too, following the crumbs we thought would take us closer to the object of our desire but which, as we followed them from one discovery to the next, led us to broaden our educations beyond the classroom and into the adult worlds of art, history, counterculture and, of course, more music. The Sound Of Being Human Book Review: Jude Rogers – The Sound Of Being Human

Today’s review is about The Sound of Being Human by music journalist Jude Rogers, published by White Rabbit Books in April 2022. It is an emotional and reflective exploration of the powers of music, and how it may help to shape a life. In an interview with Variety, Monteverde pointed out that the film was shot in 2018 and "completely finished" by 2019 — prior to QAnon's 2020 explosion in popularity. Writer Jude Rogers photographed on the doorstep of her childhood home, where she said goodbye to her father for the last time. Photograph: Francesca Jones/The Observer Janata set up a study, playing 13 of his university students 30-second clips of songs while under an fMRI scanner. He set up a school disco of the mind, not under a glitterball but the gleam of a brain-mapping machine. The songs he chose were from the Billboard top 100, from a time when his subjects were between eight and 18 years of age – far away enough in time to trigger a memory. If any sample triggered an autobiographical memory, the students had to describe it to the researchers. There’s people that are too close to the film that are in politics,” he says of Caviezel and Ballard. “So it’s like, I love you, but I have to keep my distance.” 'Sound of Freedom' has a 'pay it forward' approach

Trump’s former strategist Steve Bannon attended the screening and said the movie could “unite the country,” according to The Guardian. What does Jim Caviezel believe? Jude Rogers is one of my favourite writers and one of my favourite people. Having been interviewed by her many times I'm always bowled over by her constant passion for music, new and old, and the way she can take you to a time and a place in a few words. This is a beautiful memoir about how music can shape your life, sometimes change your life, and I defy anyone not to have a little cry along the way A representative for Marta, attorney Scott Rosenblum, confirmed to NBC News that Marta is credited at the end of “Sound of Freedom.” Other aspects of the voice, such as variations in the regularity of vibration, are also used for communication, and are important for the trained voice user to master, but are more rarely used in the formal phonetic code of a spoken language. The Sound of Being Human is an emotional and life-affirming read. Your heart wrenches with Jude in moments of sinking sadness, and you too will feel the euphoria that music brought – and still brings – her. The book is an essential read for music fans, as the emotions which Jude feels around music will ring true for a lot of people – even if the playlist may vary. I finished reading The Sound of Being Human knowing that my thoughts around my favourite music were unique yet universal – and I went away with a deeper understanding of its power. Rather than it be some kind of mystery, our relationship with music seeps deep into our biology. Thanks for reading!

Ralph Moore, Mixmag magazine/Worldwide FM A beautifully written book offering fresh insight into the way the mind processes music as well as giving a glimpse into Jude's own life as a writer, mother and broadcaster Vocal resonation is the process by which the basic product of phonation is enhanced in timbre and/or intensity by the air-filled cavities through which it passes on its way to the outside air. Various terms related to the resonation process include amplification, enrichment, enlargement, improvement, intensification, and prolongation; although in strictly scientific usage acoustic authorities would question most of them. The main point to be drawn from these terms by a singer or speaker is that the end result of resonation is, or should be, to make a better sound. [19] A great read. It is emotional, thoughtful, and insightful on the magic of music, with some interesting analysis on why music hits us so hard and why it resonates so deeply. A heartfelt story of a life in love with music. If someone is more moved, their life more enhanced, by Russ Abbot’s “Atmosphere” rather than Joy Division’s, then so be it. Why does music affect us in so many different ways? It is a question that is almost unanswerable. After all, music is less a meritocracy, more something that’s in the ear of the beholder.
