About this deal

The Slob by Aron Beauregard brings forth an unpleasant reality of intimate violation and torment. The reader should be aware physical violence and horrendous acts of defilement is a common thread throughout this splatterpunk novella. Truly, a journey to savour, and smell and taste and feel...the pure disgusting, filthy baseness of it all. And then I heard it was nominated for a Splatterpunk Award – which is not only well-deserved validation for the work, but also pretty damn impressive if you consider it is a self-published book. And that’s fair. THE SLOB is extremely graphic, vile, disgusting, disturbing, and upsetting. Readers definitely should be warned. I believe a lot of thought was put into this with the creative story that was developed, twisted elements and ending in revenge.

The Slob (Audio Download): Aron Beauregard, Lila Kerry, Aron

By the end of last year or the beginning of this one, I discovered Aron Beauregard. His stories were very extreme, but really good, and I knew there was something special about his writing. Then I read THE SLOB, and it blew my fragile and sensitive, ever-loving mind to pieces. Now, this story is a continuation of The Slob which, by it’s own right, is one of the most vile novels on the planet. (And yes, that is a compliment.) But this one digs deeper and if I can get English major-y, in your face with social commentary. Includes a bunch of excellent interior illustrations that add to the overall aesthetic of this wonderful little book.

Throughout the story, this messy house with all the trash and dirt, will create an atmosphere so heavy it will become like another character to most readers. The picture you create in your mind will probably disgust you way before you get to the really disgusting stuff that happens as the story progresses. While the rape scenes were horrific, they were also...over the top? Like it's somehow not bad enough that the main character is raped multiple times, she has to be thrown up on during the assault. Another scene she gets raped with a piece of meat and then forced to eat it? And her unborn baby is killed horribly and she has almost no reaction to it? SOME STAINS DON'T COME OUT... Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Upon discovering she and her disabled husband Daniel are expecting, she needs fast cash. Her obsession with cleanliness sprouts the concept that her skills can be put to use in a unique way. She takes a stab at the booming door-to-door vacuum sales business of 1988. Holy shit this was an insane bloodbath! I knew I was in for a disgusting time, but this still managed to make me gag more than a few times. A well-written story that doesn't overstay It's welcome. Aron manages to build up a lovable protagonist-Vera- in the first few chapters, making It all the more torturous on the reader when she eventually gets thrust into the hellish world of -The Slob.

I came across Son of the Slob on TikTok, but I had a suspicion that sexual assault was part of the first book. I’m glad I found your review on this first book before reading any of them! Reminds me of the disturbing ending of Megan Is Missing (movie)… feeling so uncomfortable in my own body after watching the scene. I just don’t understand the necessity of including explicit rape scenes of women in horror genres. Can’t people be more creative in these fictional stories?

The story takes place eight years after the events of The Slob. Vera is the loving mother of Harold. He’s a seven year old child with a peculiar and unique body. He has issues which don't allow him to go to school. He needs special care, very special. So he was placed under Sister Doomus's tutelage; she's an evil deviant old woman, who likes to do, questionable things with her rosaries . Vera, Daniel and Harold live in filthy, disgusting, rat infested, grime-filled conditions but, whilst Vera is doing her best to keep the family afloat Daniel, her disabled and troubled husband, is struggling to the point of going under. Then, there is 7 year old Harold - 'Son of Slob', the podgy, overgrown freaky kid that provides the ultimate challenge for his downtrodden, despairing parents. Far from being a normal young boy, Harold has very special needs and exhibits such alarming, disturbing behaviour that professional help is now most urgently required before matters degenerate to even lower levels of depravity and to such an uncontrollable and unmanageable situation, which bottoms out to truly horrific and horrendous proportions, that matters cannot be rectified.
