His enthusiasm for these interventions, some of which veer towards the fringe and the faddish, sometimes outstrips the evidence for their efficacy, but has contributed to their growing popularity. Understanding the book’s appeal I have been a fan of Kerry’s work for a little while now. I haven’t quite caught up with everything that she has written but I am getting there. I read the synopsis for ‘The Score’ and it certainly sounded like the sort of book I have come to associate with Kerry- a fast paced, gritty, scary and unpredictable story. I couldn’t wait to start reading ‘The Score’ and so without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for what I hoped would be one hell of a read. I must be psychic because ‘The Score’ was one hell of a read, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading but more about that in a bit. Family drama, drugs, murder, violence, love, lies - add a bit of spice - welcome to "The Score". There is a lot of family drama, Kit and Austin react very differently to their dad being out, there are some very shady characters and the drama keeps on coming. Fletch is thrown into the deep end to save his kids. With the help of old friends Fletch battles his past and does whatever he can to keep his family safe and make amends for past deeds… but can he fix things without getting blood on his hands? In 2022, in the New York Times, Jessica Bennett asked “if everything is trauma, is anything?” and denounced “post-traumatic hyperbole”. Lexi Pandell, writing for Vox, argued this “word of the decade” has become close to meaningless.

Mentally and emotionally, trauma affects how survivors interact with people and the world around them. Trauma alters the balance between these three parts, ramping up activity in some areas and weakening others. As we’ll see, trauma causes the more primitive parts of your brain to be overactive, while hindering the parts responsible for empathy, creativity, and abstract thought—which are critical to thriving in a community and in everyday life. The Reptilian Brain The Body Keeps the Score has been remarkably popular for reasons beyond its alignment with our current cultural preoccupations. For one, it is a hopeful book. Although it underscores the sweeping extent of traumatic experiences and the severity and range of their impacts, it also argues that therapy works and post-traumatic distress need not be a life sentence. The Body Keeps the Score closes with an extended exploration of alternative forms of treatment. Despite his neuro-biological leanings, van der Kolk does not see medication as the best line of intervention. He contends that effective therapies must target meaning rather than chemistry and allow traumatic memories to be processed rather than blunted. Twenty years ago, Fletch avenged the gangland killing of his younger brother, Spencer and accepted his guilt. But his actions meant he had to leave his precious children, Austin and Kitty to fend for themselves. He thought they would be looked after...If you enjoy a good gangland thriller and enjoy authors such as Martina Cole, Casey Kelleher, and Jessie Keane amongst others you are in for a treat. Kerry is definitely a contestant for the worthy title of ‘queen of crime writing'. I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of this genre, and if you are new to Kerry Kaya as an author, but enjoy the likes of Martina Cole, Roberta Kray, or Karen Rose, you are in for a treat!

The Score Quotes by Elle Kennedy - Goodreads

When we first met Allie as Hannah’s roommate, it was hard not to fall a little bit in love with her. She was the best friend that Hannah needed. She protected her at parties, she pushed her to try new things, and most importantly, she was there for Hannah when she needed her. Allie continues to show those qualities in this book, only this time, she’s pushing and protecting herself. This is a compelling, addictive gangland thriller, that I became totally absorbed by. This was incredibly difficult to put down, and I had finished it within two days! Full of brutal, dark violence, suspense and drama, as well as the perfect high-standard plot, Kerry has once again proven her talents in this class of writing and deserves to be up there with the best of crime writers. The argument that broad concepts of trauma produce fragility rests on the belief that defining moderate life challenges as mind-shattering traumas might undermine our resilience. Trauma survivors typically develop learned helplessness—a sense of powerlessness and resignation to their circumstances—after experiencing an inescapable trauma, such as a car accident, combat zone, or physical assault. By paying heed to somatic impacts and treatments of trauma, and the ways in which it disrupts attachments and relationships, van der Kolk is making the psychology of trauma more inclusive of the experiences of female trauma survivors. Inflating trauma

What I really enjoyed about this offering was the character development. I didn’t always like Fletch in the previous tale.. his emotions didn’t scream gritty gangster to me.. but added to this offering I understand him so much better now, it’s family.. you’ll do anything for those you love.

Minutes of this committee, 1890-1896, are included in -/6/1 below. Minutes include arrangement of matches, and organisation of championship, engagement of players and some team lists (in -/3/1). In trauma, he argues, people may lose a sense of body ownership to accompany their loss of self, felt connection to others, and even their sense of being fully alive. Recovering a sense of personal agency and of bodily ownership – what he refers to as befriending the body – is a key to recovery. Childhood trauma The Pavilion sub-committee was originally set up to superintend extensions and alterations to the pavilion, although for a time it was responsible for the running of the pavilion, bar etc. The Score is the best book of the Off-Campus series yet, and that’s saying something. Elle Kennedy has truly outdone herself this time.

He recognises a wide range of manifestations of trauma, promotes new trauma-related diagnoses, affirms a broad definition of what counts as a traumatic event, and recommends diverse modes of treatment. Minutes of this committee, 1890-1896, are included in -/6/1 below. Minutes include state of pitch and outfield, pavilion and other buildings, ground staff, publicity and broadcasting. First things first, do not read this book at bedtime, you will not get any sleep as you just won’t be able to put it down. A proper gangland, hard hitting, brutal and seriously unpredictable thriller. After 22 years in prison for killing his father Fletch is released from prison. All he wants to do is see his kids after all these years hoping that they have done something with their lives and not turn out like him. Waiting for his outside, is his best mate Stevie. Stevie tries talking to Fletch and tell him to take things slowly. But when he finds out what his family has been up to since he has been inside Fletch starts to get angry. His son Austin is just like is dad apart from not realising what the consequences of his actions are and he always seems to be in trouble and what’s worse his daughter has married the notorious Roscoe Taylor. Like Father’s do, Fletch takes upon himself to help Austin get out of the predicament he is in.
