About this deal

The self-sabotaging behaviors we engage in are symptoms. You need to get to the root of the behavior to dismantle the pattern and ultimately stop the self-sabotaging altogether. “You cannot get rid of the coping mechanisms and think you’ve solved the problem,” explains Wiest. You must find healthier means of meeting your needs. You must know what your needs are in the first place. 5. The only person who can save you from your own madness is yourself. Creating a life that supports our growth means setting boundaries, cultivating healthy relationships, and prioritizing self-care. There is quite a bit of redundancy throughout this book which eventually becomes tautological, especially when there are generic quotations and ideas mentioned. Autosabotarea este atunci când ai doua dorințe contradictorii. Una este conștientă, cealaltă inconstienta. Știi ca vrei sa mergi mai departe in viața, totuși stai pe loc, blocat dintr-un motiv anume.”

Releasing the past and learning to act as our highest potential future selves can help us move forward with confidence and purpose. Wiest explains that many people avoid doing necessary internal work because they realize that “[…]if they heal themselves, their lives will change–sometimes drastically.” You have to remember that your feelings, while valid, are not often real. They are not always accurate reflections of reality. They are, however, always accurate reflections of our thoughts.”Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential. By embracing the challenges of life as opportunities for growth and transformation, we can climb the mountain of self-discovery and reach new heights of fulfillment and happiness. Understanding the root causes of self-sabotage, such as fear, shame, and limiting beliefs, is key to overcoming it. The honest reason why people sabotage their own progress is because they do not want to progress to that specific goal.

The audiobook of The Mountain Is You is consistently one of the best selling audiobooks on Audible and Apple Books. The audio verion was narrated by Stacey Glemboski, a former English teacher that is now a voiceover artist. Stacey Glemboski presents Wiest’s guidance with a heartfelt, spirited voice. The audiobook leaves you with an abundant motivation to transform your life. While the audiobook is not free, Brianna Wiest has various free audio programs on YouTube and her podcast. Here are a few of those no cost options:

It is very hard to show up as the person you want to be when you are surrounded by an environment that makes you feel like a person you aren’t. Brianna Wiest, The Mountain Is You Self-sabotage is what happens when we refuse to consciously meet our innermost needs, often because we do not believe we are capable of handling them.” Think of microshifts as tiny increments of change in your day-to-day life. A microshift is changing what you eat for one part of one meal just one time. Then it’s doing that a second time and a third. Before you even realize what’s happening, you’ve adopted a pattern of behavior. What you do every single day accounts for the quality of your life and the degree of your success. It’s not whether you “feel” like putting in the work, but whether or not you do it regardless.” Many people say that you have to love yourself first before you can love others, but really, if you learn to love others, you will learn to love yourself.” When I read self help type books, I'll highlight if I come across something that rings true. I'll use a second stronger color if it provides insight or a new path I hadn't seen/thought of before, or that I had forgotten.

A few parts of the book were captivating and resonated with me but then drifted off into a massive mountain (no pun intended) of self help cliches... Some quotes I found to be disappointing and degrading as well : “self sabotage is ultimately just a product of low emotional intelligence” p.103 (I mean…really ?!) It did at times feel repetitive too. Some good lessons, but I think there are better books out there on this topic! Either way, mental strength is not just hoping that nothing ever goes wrong. It is believing that we have the capacity to handle it if it does.” Perfecționismul- se întâmpla pentru ca iti este frica de eșec, te simți vulnerabil sau crezi ca nu ești atat de bun pe cât iti dorești sa creadă altii ca suntem. I won't recommend this book to people who go through self-sabotage tendencies. I believe that good old therapy works best and that there exists other self-help books that are way more scientifically approved. I recommend The Happiness Trap by Dr. Harris to change your perspective on life instead of this one.

You are not too broken to find someone who actually wants you, and when you begin to recognize that you are worthy of being committed to, you’ll start choosing partners who do just that.”
