Brueggeman, Tom (October 5, 2014). "Specialty Box Office: 'The Good Lie,' 'Men, Women & Children' Open Soft". IndieWire . Retrieved December 25, 2022. The latest victim is able to escape, and identifies the killer as Randall Thompson, a teacher at his high school. With Randall in prison, all should be good...except Defense attorney Robert Kavin doesn’t believe Randall is guilty. Robert decides to represent him pro bono, but what makes things more complex is that Robert’s son, Gabe, was a victim of the Bloody Heart Killer.First impression: I’m kind of confused to what’s going on. All of these people are messed up. I can’t tell if I’m going to like this book or not. I'm totally satisfied with this book, the first I read by A. R. Torre (I know, I'm late to the party!). The writing flowed easily, the story was fast paced and the plot mixed mystery with a bit of romance. Don't expect an unpredictable final twist, but you shouldn't be disappointed either. Let's just say I was thoroughly enthralled from the start and that I highly recommend to read it as soon as you can! I was really hooked onto this one right from the first chapter because there is something very special about heinous and gruesome crimes which fascinates me a lot and I love reading about them.

Minow, Nell (October 9, 2014). "Writer Margaret Nagle Talks About The Good Lie". The Huffington Post. I really enjoyed reading about the character of Gwen Moore who is a psychiatrist who specializes in treating those with violent fantasies. And there is this line which she said regarding one of her patient , "She just liked the idea of being interesting, and the thought that she had a secret and underlying homicidal inclination was a rainy-day fantasy she had embraced with maniacal vigor." TBH I read this line like 10 times before moving on and I don't think I need to specify why I did that. A little more individual character depth would have made this book a perfect one. I can't believe i'm going to say this, but I wish there was like no 'romance' in this book at all, cause it was dry af at best. Everytime Gwen and that defense lawyer got it on (sorry I already forgot his name) I was shaking these dumbasses that there is still a mystery to solve. The author. By all accounts, Ms. Torre seems to be as friendly to readers and fellow authors as she is versatile in her craft. But don’t worry, all those storylines complete the whole picture with a smart signature of dark Torre style! The Good Lie was such a juicy, twisted and endlessly entertaining thriller. Layer after layer of twisted plot, yet everything working well together and never feeling like too much was going on. Honestly, I’m impressed. Not many authors can pull it off in such a chill, relaxed manner. Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore may have made one or two misjudgments in her carrier, but she knows one thing for certain – Robert Kavin is hiding something.

Which is convenient, because the same day I started reading The Good Lie, I got the ARC of A.R. Torre’s newest novel A Familiar Stranger, coming in September 2022. And I couldn’t be more excited about it! You see, Robert is so sure Randall Thompson is innocent, he decided to become his defense Attorney.During the reveal Rob had come to kill Gwen but he was interrupted by the detective. I was scratching my head wondering why she did not say anything and turn him in. I’m still missing her Deanne Madden character from Girl in 6E! I’m crossing my fingers and wishing she can decide to write a new book of hers in near future! Convinced that the crime is solved, even the media has moved away from the story. Everyone but a lawyer named Robert Kavin, a defense attorney. Robert Kavin is an expert in his field. Unfortunately, he is also the father of bloody heart killers’ sixth victim, Gabe Kavin, who is now dead. And Robert is dead set on proving Randall innocent.

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name. But because it’s easy to make a connection with her and you can see yourself in her shoes, you think more in terms of – you better have a plan to get out of that. Rather than – can’t wait to see you paying for it. Why on earth did Rob treat Gwen so well given his intentions to kill her? For example he gave her a ring that meant a lot to him. Did anyone else raise an eyebrow when Rob gave Gwen the ring, slept with her and then questioned her about John?Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist. She treats the worse kind of patient. She treats the ones who have urges to harm others. Gwen tries to guide them into a place where they can self-control these fantasies. However, a recent client and his wife are dead and now the police want to talk to her about it. At the same time, Robert Kavin, a defense attorney, wants her to come up with a profile for the Bloody Heart Killer and Randall. There is one caveat, Robert is the father of the sixth victim and he believes the man is innocent. As a city, they stopped caring because they were emotionally exhausted from the mourning. They started to look the other way, grew blind to missing-person posters and bored with the huge rewards and tearful pleas from the families. Her flawed character and the job that puts her close to potential murderers made her seem strong and vulnerable at the same time. Someone you might forgive even substantial lapses in judgement and root the whole time to find their way out of trouble. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client's name. Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist that specializes in killers.
