With the base Thrustmaster T150, you receive an all-plastic two-pedal set. These are quite frankly terrible. They look incredibly cheap and don’t feel much better to the touch. PS5 games compatibility has been tested and endorsed by Thrustmaster. At stage of publication, PS5 compatibility of the full range has not been yet tested nor endorsed by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC. Fanatec has gone a different route and released two different products, the CSL DD and GT DD Pro wheel bases. Both products look rather different on the outside, yet inside they’re almost identical. The CSL DD is an Xbox compatible wheel base while the GT DD Pro is the PS5 compatible version. If the design of the T150 looks familiar to you, you’re not going crazy. The T150 is essentially the same racing wheel as the TMX racing wheel that we have already reviewed. You can read our Thrustmaster TMX racing wheel review here, as many of the points I mentioned in that review are applicable to the T150. When it comes to the build quality – sure, the wheel is definitely a few steps below metal wheels encased in leather. However, the plastic feels robust and tough enough to withstand all the forces you’ll probably exert over it during regular gameplay. With that said, the clear weak point seems to be that the plastic is very susceptible to scratches. During the initial installation, the cable that connects the pedals to the wheel actually managed to leave a mark around the input while we were trying to plug it in. It’s definitely not a deal-breaker but the relative fragility of the plastic’s surface is definitely something to be mindful of when installing and handling the T150 Pro. Right now the Logitech G29 plus shifter makes more sense as a three-pedal setup. Or step up to the superb Thrustmaster T300RS GT Edition, if you can afford to splash the extra cash. Much like many racing wheels on the market, the diameter of the T150 is 280mm. This is just about the right size for a racing wheel albeit on the smaller side. In a circular wheel, this does feel a touch small. It could do with being 300mm across, but this was never an issue in-game. The T150 (PS4/PC) and TMX (Xbox One/PC) are compatible with the TH8A – a 100% metal shifter –, and the T3PA – the popular Thrustmaster 3-pedal pedal set (both sold separately). The T150 needed a rebuild ‘due to engine problems; the primary chain broke and then smashed the casing and twisted the end of the crankshaft.’ Ouch. But the drama doesn’t end there (it never does with a Brit triple…) because the next time (yes; the NEXT time) Brian had to strip the engine it was for ‘a holed piston. And I still don’t know why!’
There is a cable that connects the pedals to the racing wheel, a USB that runs from the wheel base to your PS5 and a power cable. Once all of those are connected and your racing wheel is mounted to a desk, table or sim rig, then you can start racing.
