About this deal

In the end, however, using the mini handlebars comes down to personal preference as most kids have no problem holding onto your handlebars next to the stem. Why? Because with a child this size, moving them closer to the front of the bike will cause their knees to interfere with the bike’s ability to turn fully. Off-road or mountain bike kids seats are also designed for slightly older kids (ages 2 to 5 years old) and also do not have a harness system. They were born and bred in the mountain biking world, and are suitable for much more aggressive riding. Going frame or stem mounted is a matter of personal preference. Parents with short arms and small frames (or pregnancy bumps) will probably gravitate to a stem mounted seat, and they are popular around town options. We’ve tested mountain bike child seats on kids ages 2 to 8 and have found that age 2.5 and 4 tend to be the sweet spot for both child and adult riders.

The angle of the legs to accommodate the angle of your down tube, and also provide enough clearance between your child’s feet and the front tire. Fitting requires 10mm of clearance under the stem. Bikes with stems shorter than 50mm in length may require additional clearance under the stem, the minimum clearance required is indicated in the diagram below. Another benefit of mountain bike child seats is their simplistic nature. They allow kids to experience riding front and center without the often complicated fit and bulkiness of traditional child bike seats. On our 2020 Cannondale Jekyll (medium frame) which has fewer and shorter spacers, there wasn’t quite enough clearance between the bike’s stem and the Pro’s sliver hand tightener when the handlebars were rotated to the right. While we could ride this way, this caused the hand tightener to rub against the stem, which was problematic. Join the Family Cycling UK Facebook Group and search the group for similar questions. If someone hasn't asked about your specific type of bike then post your own question - there's usually someone who has fitted a seat to a similar type of bike.Front bike seats are a lovely way to cycle with your baby or toddler because they are in a brilliant position as you ride - directly in front of you! This allows you to chat as you cycle along, pointing out everything you see during your bike ride. Front Bike seats are a great way to transport smaller children, but it's also worth considering your longer term options (as these kids keep on growing!)

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE FOR THE ORIGINAL SHOTGUN: If your down tube is wider than your top tube, the metal legs will bow out and bend as you screw on the foot pegs at the bottom of the legs. This is normal. We initially thought we had ruined our seat by bending those legs, but we verified with Kids Ride Shotgun that this should be expected. We did not experience this on the 2.0. The Thule Yepp 2 Mini is a light, and easy to use front bike seat. It gives your baby or toddler a full view of the road (or cycle path) and because it is made out of water-repellent materials, stays dry and easy to clean (great during those potty training months!).With any child bike seat, if you fall or crash, your child is coming crashing along with you. However, there are safety benefits of different styles of front mounted seats.

While we have used this on a sloped bar, it’s best fitted on a straight bar at the front of a bicycle as this prevents that sloped seated position. That said, our tot seemed happy in the seat for short journeys, even when slightly sloped. Overall, the seat feels secure and doesn’t take much space at the front, making it safe and comfortable for both child and parent. The inside of its metal frame is also lined with rubber to keep your bicycle from getting damaged. The original Shotgun seat has helped raise thousands of mini mountain bikers around the world. With easy installation & removal, it’s the perfect mtb child seat for getting started riding with your little one.The Shotgun seat is definitely a great option, especially if you are using a dropper post that is fully inserted into the seatpost. The Shotgun seat has a range of adjustment to fit top tubes from 30 – 68mm wide, and down tubes from 30 – 100mm wide.
