About this deal

The RG353M is available in two colours, Blue and Deep Purple. The Blue colour was a very popular colour on the past model. Which is your favourite? Let us know in the comments. RG353M Colours Now that your SD card is configured with the file structure you want, you can copy all of your favourite games onto the new card. You can also find instructions for doing this in my Starter’s Guide for the RG353 Configure your emulators The RG353V and RG353VS retro handheld emulators from Anbernic offer a choice of Android and Linux OS’s or Linux OS only. In fact, speaking of the 353P, if any of this hardware section sounded familiar, well, it should. After all, the 353V, just like with former V-branded Anbernic units, is simply a 353P in a new shell (and with a slightly smaller battery.) Therefore, you should generally expect to see identical performance to that handheld. If you are a current or former 353P owner, none of this has been new, so let’s get to the new shall we? Inputs and Comfort

The great thing about the Android OS is that you also have Android games that can be played. The RG353 does not come with the Google Play Store so you’ll have to source your apks from other places. One way to get apks is from APK Mirror and sideload your apps. The SD card reader on your unit may be bad. At which point, you would need to repair, replace, or return the unit.

Between these you have your function button, start/select and your speaker grill which is perfectly located in my opinion, and never gets covered by my fingers. Once completed, you can then verify that your wifi is connected by pressing the start button and reviewing the SSID: info at the bottom of the menu. You can also verify that you have a valid wireless connection by pressing start and looking at the bottom of menu next to Distro Version. Note: Some rumble(vibration) supporting games may require that vibration be turned on from its options or settings menu from in game to work as well. Q. How do I enable rumble(vibration) in parallel_n64? A. Do the following: Be sure Bluetooth is on. You can confirm bluetooth is on by pressing start and verifying it says BT:On In the status section at the bottom of the menu. If it says BT:Off, Hold F then hit R3 which should toggle it on. You can confirm by hitting start twice again To refresh the status area. In this device, since it has dual-boot with Android, this secondary slot also acts as secondary storage while within the Android side of the 353V as well. This allows you to seamlessly access your ROM library regardless of which operating system you boot into. Lastly in terms of storage, speaking of the Android half of things, there is an onboard eMMC 5.1 module with 32GB of storage for that operating system. Just trying to stay alive in the deep caverns of Zebes

You can tell some basic research when into the positioning of these buttons, typically with other ANBERNIC handhelds they just seem to be scattered across the device randomly, but not on the rg353V. Simply adding your ROM files to a new SD Card and crawling it in the menus will add it automatically to your library. RG353V Emulation Quality Regarding the screen, RG353V bears a similar 640*480, 3.5-inch touchscreen display as the RG353P but unlike most Anbernic devices, it does not feature the company’s logo under the screen. This gives the device a sleeker and more minimalist look that’s quite appealing. The bezels are also relatively thin which is a welcome feature of the device. The SD card itself is bad. The original SD card that comes with these units are of unknown quality and are most likely low quality. You can see my guide on installing a custom firmware here: Installing Custom Firmware (CFW) on the RG353 Create and/or copy your public key to the /home/ark/.ssh/authorized_keys file. See this link for help on how to accomplish this if needed. Once ArkOS is setup to use the second sd slot for roms and games, your main sd card and your roms sd card must be in the unit for ArkOS to boot. Let’s start with the meat and potatoes of any retro gaming inputs, the face buttons and the dpad. A large majority of your library prior to the 5th generation consoles (N64, PSX, Saturn) will use these as their primary inputs, so it’s important that they get done right, and this is where Anbernic traditionally shines. This device will carry on this tradition, with a large responsive dpad, and decently large (for a handheld) face buttons with just the right amount of travel and resistance, all utilizing a rubber membrane interface that Anbernic has clearly mastered at this point.

I see this device as a positive step for Anbernic’s vertical line of handhelds, smartly evolving from the 351V and becoming a better product as a result. The flaws are handily outweighed by a device that provides an excellent Linux mode, a Nintendo-grade build quality, and a form factor and look that is nostalgic and dare I say cute? I dare say. I loved my time with this device during the course of reviewing it and I intend to make it one of my daily drivers, particularly for the 8-bit and 16-bit games that make the most of the iconic appearance it mimics. It could be that you're unit's battery is low on charge and you need to charge it. Make sure you let it completely charge.

Let’s finish up by talking about the screen, and it is a lovely screen indeed. It is a 3.5-inch IPS display, with OCA lamination and 640×480 resolution. In addition to this, it has full multipoint capacitive touch capabilities, and it is very responsive, allowing for great Android navigation. You’ll recognize the overall quality as being fairly similar to recent Anbernic handhelds like the RG351MP and 351V, as well as the recent 353P, which all have very gorgeous vibrance and color. Even at its minimum brightness the beautiful display of the 353V is so much brighter than its inspiration If you wish, you can place your ps1 games within individual sub folders within the /roms/psx folder. For example, you can put all of your Metal Gear Solid cue/bin or chds within /roms/psx/mgs folder and this tool will still work. The last months of 2022 have seen some changes in custom firmware development for Anberinc's handhelds, which I've tried to follow a bit on Discord, wanting the best firmware for my needs and ease-of-use on my RG353P. As we come into 2023, here's what little I've learned: I've added the roms to the appropriate folder, but once I put the SD card inside the console it doesn't seem to find my roms. Allow root to be able to login through ssh by doing sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config then scroll down to PermitRootLogin and remove the beginning hashtag (#) and set PermitRootLogin to yes. Basically it should say PermitRootLogin yes on that line.
