About this deal

Cleaning the PS5 is fast and easy and won’t damage anything. Sony’s design allows users to open the plate without tools and clean up the fan without touching anything else.

The first thing you'll need to do is remove the faceplate from the console. You should be able to do that by pulling it away from the top of the console –you don't need to use a lot of strength here, it should just pop off nice and easily. Once you've done that, remove the stand and the faceplate from the bottom. Put them somewhere safe. Once you have everything you need ready to go, lay down your console sideways and unplug your console. Doing so will allow you to have a better grip on the console. Make sure you keep your PS5 on a hard stable surface, as soft tops like carpet or upholstery or carpets can lead to a buildup of heat and dust.

Sony's advice for fixing noisy PS5 fans is first of all, prevention: make sure there's at least 10cm of space around each side of the console, and don't place it on a carpet or rug with long fibres. And if you do have dusty vents, it recommends you use a low-powered vacuum cleaner to remove any dust that's accumulated in and around the air vents. Make sure your PS5 is disconnected from the power cable when you do this. Find the right spot. Avoid putting the console in tight-fitting spaces or on the floor. You can mitigate dust buildup if the PS5 is on a table or an open cabinet. And that's great, but unfortunately it also means that just like with PCs, over time you can end up with a case full of dust bunnies. That of course reduces the effectiveness of the fan, and can have an effect on your console's cooling and the noise it makes when it's running hard. It doesn’t matter if you have the digital or the standard version of PS5, you’ll need a can of compressed air, an adjustable vacuum, and a microfiber cloth.

The good news, though, is that you don't need to clean it very often, and when you do you don't need a lot of time or tools. In fact, some basic cleaning doesn't even need you to open up the console. How to clean your PS5: what Sony says When it comes to your PS5 controller, it is a great idea to clean it weekly or even after each use. Even if you wash your hands before each gaming session, they still release natural oils and sweat which collect on the controller and make it dirty. You'll need a pair of soft, preferably microfiber cloths, isopropyl alcohol (the highest percentage you can find), and some canned air. Once you have the fan secured, simply start using your compressed air on the fan. For a better result, you can ask a friend or anyone around your household to vacuum the dust that will come out of the fan as soon as it leaves your console. This’ll ensure that you won’t leave a dusty table or floor behind.Grab an all-in-one PS5 tool kit and cleaning bundle or opt for individual screwdrivers, bits, openers, brushes, and soldering tools for your specific needs. It's time to get inside the machine and give the heatsink a good clean, and this will solve your overheating problem. After completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English, Laura was able to turn her love of both video games and writing into a full-time career in 2022. When cleaning your PS5 it is important to only use the recommended products. Substituting any of the above products for others that you already have on hand can cause more harm than good to your console.
