About this deal

Frannie is delighted when a chance meeting with a handsome man and his son leads to a romance. The fact that the relationship is marred by gruesome tragedies, she dismisses as an unsettling coincidence. But eventually she can no longer ignore the fact that she is the only thing linking these horrible events. Is it a murderous practical joke? The author still lives in the UK dividing his time between his house in Brighton and his apartment in London (Notting Hill). Peter James Awards I have just finished the two House on Cold Hill (HOCH) books and have been delighted to find more with a bit of a Stephen King feel to it for me and I loved it. However, he has written a few more standalones in recent years and these are a great option to determine if you enjoy James’s writing without committing to a full series.

Peter James was born in Brighton in 1948. He spent his childhood summers in France, as his parents owned a place near St. Tropez. When they find geneticist Dr. Leo Dettoreit seems like the answer to their prayers. Every aspect of the child can be chosen and manufactured, from height and eye color to intelligence and sporting prowess. But realizing the danger too late, Naomi is already pregnant when they understand the nightmare world they are entering… Fabian Hightower has been killed in a car crash. At least, that is what a policeman is asking Alex, his mother to believe. But Alex knows she saw him that morning – at a time when he must have been dead. I’ve now read all the Roy Grace novels, The 2 spy thrillers (Dead Letter Drop & Atom Bomb Angel), and Twist Of The Knife. I have a fair few of the stand alone books, which I’m starting on next!

At the centre is a respected anaesthetist who has a secret obsession. He believes people can exist outside their bodies and that if he can prove it he will provide the answer to the question that has haunted mankind through the ages: is there life after death? Twenty-five years later, Sam’s nightmares are starting to come true once more. Now a successful TV commercials producer, juggling her roles of career woman, wife and mother, she attempts to shut them out. This is a spooky wee book, Alex's friend is bizarre to say the least and adds to the spooky feel of the book. The mediums in the book only add to the spooky feel & the more Alexs pursues the more she realises she didn't really know her son at all. Charley has a strange feeling when she sees the idyllic mill house with its cluster of outbuildings, the lake and the swirling mill stream; a powerful sense of recognition, as if she has been there before. Except she knows she hasn’t. Recently separated from her husband, she lives alone, surrounded by reminders of Fabian – a portrait, a gift of red roses sent before he died. She consults a medium, only to have the medium stop in mid-session and refuse to continue, terrified of something but unwilling to reveal what.

First novel in a long time that has been genuinely creepy. Really fun read without falling into the trap of being ridiculous. Enough tension built up that keeps the story moving and a good twist at the end.Monty Bannerman’s father is a leading genetic scientist, and Nobel Prize winner, whose company has just been taken over by what will soon be the world’s biggest pharmaceutical giant. He had some misgivings about their company ethics – but ultimately, he needs their money, and they need his mind. The first season, which premiered in 2021, was made based on the author’s first book in the series, Dead Simple.

Possession – Peter James Possession – Peter James

As previously mentioned, Dead Letter Drop was Peter James’s debut novel. The year following its publication he wrote a sequel once again following undercover agent Max Flynn in a race against time. Both books were originally published in the 1980s, and then reissued in the mid-2010s. Absolute Proof, his standalone novel from 2018 actually began many years ago, in 1989, when an older man, Harry Nixon, called in on the phone and told him that he has been given proof of God’s existence, and Peter James was the person to bring this to light. For his 30-years of research for the story, Peter James not only spoke with religious leaders about proof of God’s existence but he even went as far as living for five days as a monk at theMount Athos monastery in Greece, where women are banned from entering the place. But soon Sam is faced with the reality of dreams in which her life and that of her family are threatened. In desperation, she consults the experts: a psychiatrist; a clairvoyant … but to no avail.Genuinely frightening ... only Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Stephen King's The Shining have scared me as much.' Evening Standard He continued to write standalone novels after this book, and in 2005 he published Dead Simple. This novel would be the first in his bestselling series that featured Roy Grace, a Brighton-based detective superintendent. You may have found that your first ever Peter James book was Book 15 in a series, and that’s okay. But once you realize this, we’d recommend starting at the beginning and working your way forward. I came across Dead Man’s Footsteps among some books I’d been given, and after reading I was hooked! Next, chronologically at least, in Peter James’s bibliography are quite a few standalones. After the Max Flynn duology James transitioned to writing standalones for many years before beginning the Roy Grace series. Smile And Other Stories: Smile; the Wrong Side; Making Hay; Empire Building; Lost Boys; Stiff Competition; Horse Sense; Monsters; Snake Girl; Vacant Possession; Some Day my Prince Will Come Possession follows Alex, a mother whose son Fabian has recently died in tragic circumstances, and wants to help her son's spirit move over to the other side, as he seems to be trapped between life and death. From the very beginning, this gave me goose bumps, as the author set the errie scene perfectly for the reader. It is made obvious that things with Fabian are a little "odd," and as the story unfolds, the secrets that he had been keeping from his mother are revealed, even after his death. This book totally freaked me out, meaning I had to stop and start to compose myself more than once, taking what is relatively a short book, a while for me to complete. In particular, the descriptive scenes of the exorcism and senones were especially gruelling. The Diamond Rule Secrets of a Master Diamond Cutter: How to Dreamatically Increase the Value of Your Most Precious Possession- Your Relationships
