About this deal

The filter thread of the 12-100mm is a little bigger than that of the 12-40mm, and with a minimum focus distance of 15cm at the widest angle, it is capable of focusing 5cm closer than the 12-40mm. Up until recently, none of Olympus’ lenses incorporated optical stabilisation because most Olympus cameras include some form of in-body stabilisation. All this changed with the release of the M.Zuiko 300mm f/4 PRO whose optical stabilisation, dubbed Sync IS, can be used in conjunction with the in-body stabilisation of the E-M1, E-M5 II, Pen F and E-M1 II.

Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4 IS Pro Lens, suitable

Today I will review the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-100 mm F4 IS Pro and tell you why I returned it to the store. Well, tbh, this lens is way better on paper than in the real world, which is why it didn’t cut it for me. However, it wasn’t all bad. One of my favourite Lake District views - whatever the weather. It started raining a few minutes later and for most of the time we walked round the Lake. There has been lots of tree felling on the far side of the lake, due to Larch disease. We also noticed many fallen mature trees (here and elsewhere in the Lakes) most of which were apparently blown over in storm Arwen in November '21. The 12-100mm f/2.8 Pro features its own 2-Axis image stabilisation system. It also features Sync IS, which allows it to work with the excellent 5-axis system in any compatible camera body, like the OM-D E-M1 Mark II that we tested it with, where it offers an amazing 6.5 stops of compensation, surpassing any other camera that we've ever tested.Of course, many buyers will balk at the idea of paying a four-figure sum for a superzoom. But this one really can do it all unexpectedly well, and potentially replace a two or three other lenses in your bag. It’s a great addition to any Micro Four Thirds shooter’s arsenal. If you are interested in the lens’ IS capabilities for video, you’ll be happy to know that it performs really well. Of course, you won’t get the same amount of compensation as with sensor stabilisation but fixed shots are pretty stable and there isn’t any visible jittering.

Problems with Olympus 12-100 mm F4 IS PRO (Review) Top 3 Problems with Olympus 12-100 mm F4 IS PRO (Review)

As for chromatic aberration, I didn’t come across any relevant examples during my testing period, which would suggest that it is very well-controlled on both lenses. In terms of features, the M.ZUIKO Digital 12-100mm f/2.8 Pro lens has quite a lot to offer. For starters, it has a so-called L-Fn button, which allows users to temporarily suspend continuous auto focus when something suddenly comes between the lens and your intended subject. This is mostly useful when shooting a movie clip with C-AF enabled, but the feature can also be used when photographing action. I have the 14-150 II and recently bought the 12-100 Pro. The 12-100 IS Pro is indeed the better lens and gives fantastic image stabilisation in combination with the E-M1 II. The Olympus 12-100mm F4 PRO zoom (24-200mm equivalent focal length) has been a well-used and well-loved lens for me this past year. I see that it has even relegated my Panasonic 14-140, a favorite from the prior year, to my lens drawer. Though the 14-140 is a “sharp enough” lens, the 12-100 is “more than sharp enough” and importantly has a few additional features, albeit at a significantly higher (2x) price point. Another important characteristic to consider is the out-of-focus rendering of the two lenses, since both can work as makeshift portrait lenses thanks to their reach on the telephoto end, or even semi-macro lenses due to their close-focusing capabilities.Lens configuration: 17 elements in 11 groups with 1 HR, 2 Super HR, 3 Aspherical glass, 1 DSA lens, and 5 ED lens elements Moreover, the Olympus lenses are popular for maintaining their image quality throughout the entire field of view. You will be impressed by its image sharpness because it is so good even when fully zoomed in. Build I seem to be constantly worrying whether to trade it in for a 12-100 or not (I can't justify keeping both). In this comparison, we’ll be looking at all the similarities and differences between the 12-40mm and 12-100mm – both the obvious and the more subtle. Let’s get started!

There's a chance that I may do some video blogging. This makes the Sync-IS of the 12-100 very appealing, but I don't know if the Sync-IS is as super duper when pairing with the E-M5ii as it is the E-M1ii.Ditto aperture – I've got plenty of low light lenses to use when the sun goes down, indoors etc. So the minor aperture difference between these two is of little practical consequence. The autofocus motor itself is deadly silent, which makes the two lenses good companions for video work as well. Optical Quality – Through the lens E-M1, 1/500, f/11, ISO 200 – 12-40mm Pro E-M1 II, 1/100, f/5.6, ISO 200 – 12-100mm Pro The Olympus 12-100mm f4 M.Zuiko PRO lens has an impressive 8.3x zoom with the constant f4 and this allows for some seriously high quality imagery. This level of versatility is echoed in how lightweight and compact this lens is for such a large focal range. Not only this but it is also dust, splash and even freeze-proof meaning there's almost nowhere that will stand in the way of your photography when using this lens. Down to the Finest Detail So, if you’re someone like me who wants his lens to be fast, then I totally won’t recommend it to you. Conclusion
