The four lower stars are representative of our League Championship wins - and the six blue above are for our six FA Cup wins. Newcastle United celebrated its 125th anniversary during the 2017/18 season and a special commemorative crest was commissioned as part of the club's celebrations.

Alex Hurst, 27, one of the founders of Gallowgate Flags said: “The four club badges are a nod to our history as are the ten blue stars. The words ‘We are United’ are apt for the new direction the club is hopefully pulling in. With record second division crowd numbers in the modern era being set by Newcastle fans, we thought it was a suitable message.” We take a look at our crests over the years, what they consist of and what their individual components signify. Time has moved on and we want to create something unique, but we wanted to give a nod to the old flags that were so popular.

Circular in shape and with a bold simplicity, it contained only the letters ‘NUFC’, with the solitary magpie retaining a presence in the opening of the upturned ‘C’. Our shirts first had the city's Coat of Arms emblazoned on them as early as 1911, but it was in 1969 that the club finally adopted it as an official emblem. Despite having a shelf life of only five years, the club’s next crest remains somewhat of a cult classic. The club’s current and perhaps most famous crest – synonymous with the Entertainers Era of the mid-nineties – was created in 1988. Each side of the flag is adorned with the image of the individual cups and the dates we won each one.”The first club-specific crest was created in 1976 and it retained an illustration of Castle Keep – which still stands imposingly in the city today.
