About this deal

Mitring is the cutting process used to join two objects together neatly on an external angle or corner – in this case skirting board. Mitre boxes contain slots that act as guides for the saw blade, normally at 90° and 45° degree angles.

Once happy with the fit you can now fix in place either using adhesive or conventional methods like screws or nails. If your not sure how best to do this read our article on how to fix skirting boards. A straight cut is easier than a mitre cut using this method, but should still be done with care. For a straight cut, you'll preferably need a square (tool used to draw perfectly square and 90° degree lines), a pencil and a saw.Mark this length on your board, and add a diagonal mark to indicate the direction you intend to cut the mitre in. It has an extended lip which allows you to secure this to a workbench if you need to do that (suitable for 5 mm bolts)

Mitre joints are common woodworking joints that are used to join two pieces of wood together at 90° angles. These joints are commonly used around doorways and skirting boards. With difficulty! Use our guide in the section ‘ How to cut skirting board without removing it‘ to help you. Alternatively, hire one of our expert tradespeople to help you. How do you cut skirting board with a hand saw? To make it a little easier, make sure you cut the wood at an angle and in a continuous motion. This helps to keep the cutting line clear of dust and reduces the heat on the blade to prolong its lifespan. A table saw could do it with the blade tilted to 45° but very few corners are exactly 90° so it's hit & miss without a purpose made tool that halves the angle for using a power mitre saw, such as the Trend Anglefix but as already said, they wont cut 170mm.The only thing I can think of without the right tools is find the outside angles with an adjustable bevel then take this to your local timber merchant along with a couple of pieces of skirting & ask them if they can cut the correct mitre by halving the angle from the adjustable bevel.

Once you’ve cut both corners, hold the two boards together to ensure they fit together perfectly before fixing them permanently to the wall. It also has integrated guiding pins for the handsaw that automatically transfer the correct angle to the saw, with no margin for error. Tip: Place the skirting board face up with the mould nearest the sawblade. This prevents chipping/breakout on the front of the board. Adjust the angle of the saw head to the 45° position so it will be cutting in line with the diagonal direction marking you made above. You are aiming to cut down to where your two marks intersect for the perfect cut. It can be easier to over cut this length and then trim the end off as neccessary. A mitre box simply takes away the need to draw guides on the skirting. It already has guides for the saw (normally at least the 90° and 45° degree angles) so all you need to do is place the skirting board inside the mitre box and use your hand saw to perform the cut. Using A Precision Saw

Generally, you should be able to hire a mitre saw relatively cheaply so this is the option we'd recommend if your budget allows it. How To Cut Skirting Board Without Removing It From The Wall Make sure your mitre box is secure, otherwise it could slip when you begin cutting. This could cause injury to yourself or create an untidy finish on your skirting board seams. Step three: Position the skirting board Its always possible to cut part way by eye then slip the piece into the mitre saw but, having tried that myself, It's a bit hit & miss. Open your adhesive, attach the nozzle and snip the end off, as per product instructions, and insert the canister into the caulking gun. Not as gucci as having a 300 quid sliding bevel but joiners have been using this method for only the last few hundred years or so.
