About this deal

There were two people who knew more than most about the last months of Bradford's life. Raymond Jordan was his election agent and his wife, Kay, had been Bradford's personal secretary. One day, I met with Jeffrey Donaldson, a former UUP stalwart who'd worked closely with Jim Molyneaux who had later moved to the Democratic Unionist Party and was now the MP for Lagan Valley. He made an interesting claim. DSI Jason Murphy: “These arrests are the culmination of a detailed two-year investigation into Lyra’s murder and the events which preceded it. The local community have supported the Police Service of Northern Ireland throughout the course of this protracted investigation and I wish to thank them for their continued support.” Ms Calder added: "Excalibur Press will be donating our commission to our not-for-profit entity The Merlin Project, where we hope to run a series of events, workshops and potentially courses for young reporters wanting to learn some of the practical aspects of the industry.

Review: Lyra McKee - Angels with Blue Faces - The Irish News Review: Lyra McKee - Angels with Blue Faces - The Irish News

Eight boys went missing in Belfast between 1969 and 1975. These weren’t victims of the IRA or the UVF; they weren’t “disappeared” by the paramilitaries. These boys belong to a different category. They were indirect victims of the armed struggle, the people who vanish and are never found during a war, because the police and the judicial service have other priorities. However, it is with great disappointment and concern that, as a company, to be directly or indirectly linked to an “IRA bombers group” in an article that clearly misrepresents the organisation Paper Trail it is describing is severely damaging to our company’s reputation and that of myself, my staff, our clients and our other authors. It has also, in my opinion, put people in real danger. And “epic” was the last word that Lyra ever wrote to me. Because the following night, she was shot dead in Derry. When you lost someone in the Troubles, you had a story you could tell. There was a beginning, a middle, and an end. He lived, she died – because he was Catholic, Protestant, in the IRA, in the police, in a Loyalist gang – and we miss her, every day. Beginning, middle, end. For those who have chosen not to buy, read or support the book following this ill-thought out story by the News Letter I implore you to learn more about Lyra and her family, her wishes and the work of Paper Trail, Excalibur Press and The Merlin Project for you will find that your decision is ill-informed by a news source you may have trusted and respected.

Lyra McKee Two men charged with murder of Belfast journalist Lyra McKee

Doyle, Martin (15 March 2019). "Best of Irish: 10 rising stars of Irish writing". Archived from the original on 21 April 2019 . Retrieved 20 April 2019. Within weeks, the MP who replaced Bradford, Rev Martin Smyth, told an audience in San Francisco that he knew who had murdered Bradford. Years later, when I met him at his home, I asked Rev Smyth – then in his eighties – about the story and showed a newspaper clipping. "I just don't remember it," he'd said. "I can remember being in the States, but I don't remember this." Conspiracy Lyra's investigation into the death of Northern Ireland MP Robert Bradford was a passion project for her, for years it became her obsession as she followed lead after lead in the pursuit of the truth. If you want to understand modern Northern Ireland and, in particular, the struggles facing the Good Friday Generation, I'd highly recommend this book.

I know I'm probably way late in saying this, but Lyra's death was a massive blow not only to her friends and family, but to the journalism world and Northern Ireland. It was a senseless tragedy that should never have happened. It is so sad that she never got to hold the final copy of Angels With Blue Faces in her hand," she said. He said senior members of the UUP had harboured suspicions about Bradford's murder. "I worked with Enoch Powell as his constituency agent and later as personal adviser to the party leader Jim Molyneaux," he said. I think everyone should read at least one piece from this book. It discusses so many different topics from life in Northern Ireland and mental health issues further afield.

Lost, Found, Remembered by Lyra McKee | Goodreads

Paper Trail is victim-led and the Board reflects this. As well as the Republican ex-prisoner, we have a trustee whose father was killed by Republicans. Other Board members were bereaved or injured during the conflict too. This cynical attempt by the News Letter to portray Paper Trail as an “ex-IRA bomber’s group”, is a misrepresentation and is as damaging as it is offensive.I made another phone call, this time to Colin Wallace. During the 1970s, Wallace had been an information officer working for the British army in Northern Ireland, while simultaneously working for a secret intelligence unit. I’d asked him to dig around regarding Bradford and what he’d heard regarding the whispers that he’d been about to go public with something relating to Kincora. If anyone would know something, it would be Wallace. The book, Angels With Blue Faces, is a five-year investigation into the IRA killing of MP Robert Bradford in 1981, and will be released at the end of June.
