About this deal

That was definitely not my experience unless you are talking about perfect conditions with an easy, static target and great lighting. If you add any kind of adversity to the shooting scenario, the AF weaknesses add up in a hurry.

It is a pity that comparison doesn't fix the field of view rather than the camera position - all the 20mm shots are about 15% larger as a result which complicates comparing resolved detail. Shooting assist functions including WFM (Wave Form Monitor), Vector Scope, Luminance Spot Meter, Zebra Pattern can be used during RAW output.

The review mentioned noise, which is more of a concern to me, as that could ruin its ability for video. Both of these lenses are very well made and feel solid in the hand. The Panasonic does have an all plastic build (with the exception of the mount) but it still feels like a quality item. The focus ring turns with just the right amount of weight and it attaches to both my Olympus OM-D and Panasonic GF-1 with a smooth a reassuring clunk. As nice as the Panasonic is, the Olympus does trump the Panasonic’s build with a body that is almost entirely made of metal. The Olympus 17mm is noticeably larger and heavier than the Panasonic 20mm, but it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for those looking for a compact normal prime lens.

The 20mm lens has been reported to suffer from banding on some Oly bodies, for reasons I haven't seen explained satisfactorily, so I've avoided it as I have both Oly and Pany bodies. Yes I have seen that comparison between the two lenses. And a host of others since I was interested in the 17/1.8 when it appeared. In the end, I decided to keep the 20/1.7 I already had instead.Oh yeah, video; I keep forgetting about that. I agree, the 20mm wouldn't be very good for that, or C-AF either, I suppose. I also agree with "adequate," as you say. But "adequate" is, um, adequate, and there are so many negative comments about this lens and its focusing that I think it misleads a lot of still photographers.

Based on the review and some opinions I've read, the 20mm f/1.7 is a bit slower to focus, although the significance is subjective The BGH1 is the LUMIX’s first box-style camera exclusively designed and developed for professional use. To support a growing need of live streaming, the BGH1 will provide an IP streaming function that enables distant, high-quality image transmission to the social streaming platform online with PC connection over wired LAN. Notably, the LUMIX BGH1 is a unique camera that can stream 4K 60p (50p) video in H.265. The H.265 realizes half the bitrate while keeping the image quality the same as H.264, which means it can provide 2x higher image quality at the same bitrate as H.264. Streaming in ultra-high definition 4K at low bitrate is possible even in the cases where the bandwidth is not broad enough.Compatible lenses: H-XA025, H-ES200, H-E08018, H-X1025, H-HSA12035, H-ES12060, H-FS12060, H-X2550, H-HSA35100, H-FSA45200, H-ES50200, H-FSA100300 and H-RS100400
