About this deal

Even in the pure planar setting, the Talos showcase excellent imaging, layering, micro-details, transients, and instrument separation. Only the Moondrop Stellaris can better the Talos in these areas, but the Stellaris are quite unlistenable for most consumers, being overly bright, with timbral flaws and fit issues. Boasting huge production facilities and a comprehensive suite of state-of-the-art testing equipment – in particular, Brüel & Kjær head-and-torso simulators, spectral analyzers, and anechoic chambers. DUNU does its driver development totally in-house. The Stellaris have a more marked boost in the upper mids and treble, with greater treble extension, sparkle, and air. Note weight is very thin on the Stellaris, and their timbre is quite unnatural when acoustic instruments show up in the music; vocals are overly nasal. The fitting of the PR1 Pro is very good. I honestly though it was big (KZ AZ16 Pro kind of big) from the picture, but upon arrival, it’s only medium sized, slightly leaning on large. The contour of the housing fit my ear perfectly, like many other KZ iem.

Still, to get the absolute best of this planar driven earphone I do think it sounds the best, the most open, the most dynamic and at home, when using something with more power. Needless to say, that both of my daps (M6 Ultra & Dx240) equally made the most of the S12P. Both adding their own flavor to the sound. The Quad AK4493SEQ chips in the M6 Ultra and the ES9038 Pro chip within the DX240 both have fantastic synergism and show the adaptability of the S12 Pro. I suppose the same result would be had with both the original S12 as well as the Zeos tuned Z12. Layering is more consistent in s12 pro balanced with bass punches that are so controlled and rounded (corners). s12’s were not that tasty. Letshuoer s12 vs s12pro with Dunu Amber 4.4 Balanced I’ve had plenty of time to enjoy the S12P, enough time to know that it’s a keeper for me. The slightly colored balance between the frequencies is something I’ve really grown keen to. I like the dynamism, and the “close to DD” like nature of the low-end coupled with an easy going yet energetic treble region. The look of this set is great, from the earphones themselves all the way down to the rad looking modular cable. Furthermore, the choice of colors evokes a sense of poised masculinity due to the blueish/purplish hue and stainless-steel accents…it just looks tough. I think it’s the best-looking iteration of the “S12 Line”. Anyways, I don’t want to re-hash this entire review. I think Letshuoer is on the right path, and I will be sure to follow them closely in the future. There are multiple vents on the front and rear cavities, which DUNU says constitute a special multi-venting system, contributing to strong dynamics and robust low-frequency response. Isolation is hence bang average due to the venting. The S12 Pro have a tinge less natural timbre, but their included cable has modular options for various balanced and unbalanced connectors, which isn’t included with the Talos’ accessories. Vs. Tangzu Audio Zetian Wu Perfect fit. Just put your KZ PR1 Pro inside the case. And carry it to any place that you prefer easily.

Dioko to my ears is a lean sounding set, more or less same bass quantity as Stellaris and has weird 8khz peak that make edge of every notes sound sharp. Treble on Dioko to my ears sounds unnatural and forced because of the peak around 8khz, sure it might affect the perception of detail retrieval, but in a forced manner like throwing it to your face. I don’t hear anything really glaring as a definitive con, except on rare occasions there is the faintest bit of planar timbre peeking through. This is also induced by my brain concentrating and listening for it. That being said I think females have a nicely positioned and energetic sound which is capped by a smooth delivery. The S12 PRO is the company’s 6th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the original S12 that was a big success and made LETSHUOER wider known to the audiophile world. Cymbal strikes or hi hats sound overly pronounce, almost like it was in your face. The planar sheen didn’t help either. Altogether, the timbre of the instrument here sounds not as natural as I’d like. There is plenty of energy here and a touch of brilliance but only as much as is needed for giving a shining and luminous character to the sound never crossing the point to harshness and stridency. In the pure planar setting, the Talos have slightly poorer imaging, clarity, and soundstage, when compared to the Stellaris. However, if the hybrid mode is activated, the Talos have the upper hand in technical performance. Detail Retrieval & Resolution: On par with sets like dioko, which means it has great details for its price, tho some might say dioko has better details due to its unnatural peak on the 8khz region forcing the treble to stands out like a sore thumb.

The independent rear acoustic chamber design makes channel matching to be more consistent. In terms of sound performance, the structural design of the front and rear acoustic chamber effectively discharges the pressure inside the chassis, thereby attaining a more natural sound. It is easy to drive KZ PR1 Pro with just 16Ω impedance. Most smartphone in the market should have enough power to drive it. Personally, I am using Zorloo ZuperDAC Pro USB-DAC with ESS Sabre 9281ACPRO. It is much better than smartphone built-in one. And manages to get more juice out of KZ PR1 Pro. FYI, it is slightly easier to drive than PR1 HiFi Edition. It need not be emphasized that 2022 is the year of planar IEMs. Chi-Fi companies all want a piece of this lucrative pie, and it is no exaggeration that almost every week brings a new planar release.IMO the PR1 Pro has really good bass quality, you can feel the heavy slams, rumble but at the same time, the bass is well controlled, speedy, and tight. The Talos are no slouch in timbre, but of the planar challengers, the Zetian Wu have the best timbral accuracy of the lot. The soundstage is wide due to the sense of airiness brought by the treble. It has sufficient sense of depth and height to it. Imaging are good, you can easily pinpoint and visualize all the instruments here and there. Detail retrieval and resolution is also good. I have no complain regarding the technicalities of the PR1 Pro. It’s not the best I’ve heard, but for the price it is up there among the best. The Hook-X is a dual driver hybrid using a Planar Magnetic Driver and a Piezoelectric Driver and does so with a fantastic tuning. I would also call the Hook-X a V-shaped iem with a very dynamic and expressive approach having an emphasis in the low-end and the upper-mids to treble. Some differences The S12 Pro are tuned to a deeper V-shape. They have bigger bass and sound more “fun,” though the bass isn’t as tight and textured as on the Talos and can bleed into the midrange.
