About this deal

For some of us who have raised autistic children, the belief we hold dearly is one that says, “a child with autism is just like any other child with a particular way of interacting with their environment.” Lori, a mom who has worked in behavioral health as a therapeutic staff support with special needs children for more than five years, recently published a charming children’s book called, Leah’s Voice. Lori said she was inspired to create the book as she witnessed the special, loving bond between her own two daughters who are now 13 years old and 10 years old, respectively. When a long-distance relative comes for a visit, Jody and her brother Josh, who has autism, find themselves teaching Great Aunt Tilda the rules of the games they like to play.

Book Review – Leah’s Voice by Lori DeMonia - Autism Daily

I am sure that many parents, including myself, wonder how they will explain to their child about their sibling’s autism. My son who has ASD is 6 and my eldest son is 8. I found a book that is similar in mature to this one to help him understand more about his brother, this was around three years ago, but if I was to do so now, I would most definitely have found this book useful. Sometimes parents can become overwhelmed and not know how to talk about the difficulties and challenges that the child with autism has, as well as celebrating their differences and streetlights. This book manages to do this. This is a book that any parent or caregiver or health care professional come to think of it, can sit down and read to a child. This book will pave the way for discussion as well as answering many questions. The book opens with Logan waiting for her friend Abby to call to her house, as a play date has been arranged. When Logan introduces her sister Leah, who has autism, to Abby, she becomes angry and upset with her friend, as she does not understand the reasons behind Leah’s behavior: This is the most popular book on autism to be found on bookstores anywhere. The author of this book, thirteen-year-old Naoki, invites you to imagine an everyday life in which your ability to speak is taken away from you. The Reason I Jump is a great read for older children through adults! It’s rewarding to watch two sisters who love each other unconditionally, even when communicating has been difficult. It’s also rewarding as their mother to see that they are setting a good example for others. Despite having a sibling with special needs, Leah’s younger sister is amazingly loving and supportive, it is rewarding to know other children will observe and learn acceptance by their example. Leah says of Sir Tom: "He lived up to expectations, an absolute legend, and he was lovely and so supportive." Our goal is to provide special needs children (i.e., Autism, ASD, ADD/ADHD, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, etc.) and parents of special needs children a safer night's sleep using specialist equipment like weighted sensory blankets and calming bed tents.
