About this deal

The novel begins where It Ends with Us left off, after the novel’s protagonists Lily Kincaid and Atlas Corrigan run into each other on the street, and Lily tells Atlas she and Ryle are now divorced. Told in chapters that alternate between Atlas’s and Lily’s perspectives, the novel begins with Atlas nervously hoping Lily will text him soon like she said she would. This hope keeps him uplifted as he handles the reality that someone broke into his restaurant, Bib’s, and vandalized it with a misspelled profanity. Meanwhile, Lily is incredibly busy at Lily Bloom’s, her flower shop, and is confused about what to do about Atlas, knowing a romance with Atlas will infuriate her jealous and abusive ex-husband, Ryle, with whom she shares jointed custody of their infant daughter Emerson. It Starts With Us” explores the reality of relationships: Falling in love is easy, but loving is hard work. And in some way, all relationships are flawed — we simply must choose which imperfections we are willing to accept. As we grow older, we all redefine relationships, perhaps reflecting your parents’ love or an act of caring that you received when you were twelve. Some love arrives all at once, like typical parental love, and some love is felt in an instance. I also want to add, I loved the side characters. Every single one of them. Theo and Josh stole my goddamn heart. The only thing I rolled my eyes at was Lily writing to Ellen still but alas a book can’t be too perfect.

Quite a few grammatical errors. I was surprised as popular these books and author are; I thought there'd be better editing. I definitely went into the wrong profession. I’m not new to Colleen Hoover but there was a certain circumstance (won’t tell you, no spoilers!) made me actually curse her out and hate her for a moment. jokes on everyone in the comments who was mad i rated this five stars before i read it. i read it. guess how many stars im giving it? ;) I wasn’t fond of the diary entries to Ellen in the first book and I especially didn’t like them here. It was cute when she was younger, but we’re grown folks now Lily. Ellen is not reading that shit, cut it out. Anyway, this was mid. Lily was too damn kind. Call me bitter, but if it were me, I’d leave Ryle to rot in hell and not let that man anywhere near my child. i like to think ive matured and i wont be reading collen hoover from here on out, i repect the collen hoover fan though, more power to youWith that being said; I read It Ends With Us in 2016. I truly loved how it ended, I thought it was the end. I did not ever expect it starts with us and yet I could not think of what a beautiful and necessary addition this is. her excuses for ryle is always for her daughter not to go through a complicated life but thats so stupid because Ryle hasnt changed at all and that makes him dangerous even for emmy, so its not something to excuse and she should’ve reported all his past abuse bur she hadnt! And she didnt even report his actions when he pushed her and was about to hit her!

It Ends With Us should have stayed a standalone. It had the perfect bittersweet ending that was on point with the whole book. This was just meh and didn’t add anything interesting or new to the overall story. What I especially think is note-worthy is, like in other books, she has a way of putting things in perspective.

Not for me. I’m not into romance novels and though this book has a bit more substance, it’s a bit too formulaic. I stopped reading it and just read the ending and the note from the author which I did like reading. This book is being made into a movie and I think I may like the movie version. We’ll see.
