I have 35+ years fixing Cars all makes and models, which other Experienced and good Mechanics / Tech's cant fix, never been beaten yet, always a first time round the corner though :wink The difficult bit is getting hold of the odx files, manufacturers do sell them, but for lots of money. The other way of finding this information out is hook up a manufacturer's tool to the car, press a button and spy on the CAN traffic, ie reverse engineer them. So they know if you press button A on screen, message B gets sent on the CAN bus...So now you can see how they can make something that sort of works but they won't know the whys and wherefores. On-Board Monitoring| This function can be utilized to read the results of on-board diagnostic monitoring tests for specific components/systems.

You will need to know the chassis of the car that you are working on. For example: for a 2004 Mercedes-Benz E320 you need to select W211 or on a 02 BMW 525i enter E39. A lot of guys have bought good gear off Alibaba, but it still remains a lottery, although as wallyp says, these days it is less of a lottery than it was 5 years ago. Looking for advice on this iCarsoft MB V3.0 - maybe I'm probably missing something obvious in the procedure.

However, more and more these days, I am having to buy Dealer Level, due to the fact that most modern Cars have followed Benz in as much as Modules need Coding etc etc.I/M Readiness Test| Indicate whether or not the various emissions-related systems on the vehicle are operating properly and are ready for Inspection and Maintenance testing.
TPMS | Function include displaying sensor IDs from the vehicle`s ECU, inputting TPMS sensor replacement lD and testing sensors.Confirm that the fault has been repaired and you will be able to continue to the regeneration by driving method. Hence my comment saying about young trainees .............. computer geniuses, (should have said "general service / repair" garages too), who know nothing about how Car functions, Can Comm etc etc etc :wink FWIW, the MBII would be a perfectly fine tool for the casual car owner who prefers to do most maintenance themselves. At the very least, the MBII would have paid for itself if you can avoid just one diagnostic charge from a dealer. Does not store codes. You will only be able to look at the fault codes while the scanner is connected to the vehicle. Make sure to write down the fault codes before you disconnect the scanner.
