About this deal

The only reason why I read this was because I saw that a principle down south was fired for reading it. In a letter to Price, the superintendent reportedly called the book “inappropriate”, pointing to references to flatulence and noting that it “described butts in various colors, shapes and sizes (example: fireproof, bullet proof, bomb proof)”. This book is great for kids of any age but I'm sure this is PERFECT for any family with little boys. I Need a New Butt is by far is my boys (4 &6 yr) favorite bedtime book. They are constantly asking for the "bottom" book and then they spend the whole time giggling. This book is just down right silly, there's not really a point to it which makes it more hilarious to them. The wording is simple and this book is just long enough to entertain the children without being too long for the parent to enjoy reading to them.

Price, who has been teaching for 20 years, said the district superintendent, Delesicia Martin, called him into her office and told him he was being placed on leave. Two days later, Price said, he was accused of breaking the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics, and fired. I Need a New Bum’ (2018) – by Dawn McMillan, with illustrations by Ross Kinnaird – is a fun and silly story aimed squarely at its target audience demographic of largely bum/pooh fixated 2-6 year olds.I mean how can you not like the idea? I could hardly believe it was written by a woman, but then why the hell not? She obviously knows on which side her bread is butt-ered, and a woman can be a gluteus for punishment just like a man.... I was honestly quite impressed by her creativity, and I don't think she's bottomed-out yet, so I'd love to read something by her which is written with a more mature (but equally playful) aspect, to which she will no doubt respond tush-hey! I'm sure that Dawn McMillan isn't one to sit-upon her laurels.... This children's book was so crazy. You know how young kids like butt or poot stories. This book is not exactly manner related, but it is not offensive & basically child appropriate if you allow your child to have a good laugh when they toot or hear the word butt. The whole idea was as hilarious as it was preposterous, so I confess I did come into this already already biased towards the writer and artist, and they did not let me down, either one of them. Of course, I'm way to old for this kind of a book, but that didn't prevent me from maximizing my enjoyment and having some fun with it. I found some of the humour in this forced at times, but I can see it would appeal to young children. It can be difficult getting kids interested in books and reading. Any book that can capture a kid's interest and have them wanting to read it again, and then read another book is a good book - a great book.

I wasn't really sure how the book would be able to pull off being funny without being gross, but it was able to do so. I actually liked the different types of butts he considered, especially the arty-farty butt. I found myself laughing a few times and my infant son seemed to enjoy it too as he laughed a couple of times, although I'm not sure if he was laughing at the drawings or at the verses. Certainly, the book in question is meant to be humorous for a young audience, and fellow educators might reasonably question if it was the optimal choice for this particular occasion,” the organization said. It is a good ending! I think what surprised me the most was the vocabulary in this. I have taught some kids in high school who wouldn't necessarily know some of those words. But then, hose unfortunate kids never had their grannies read to them (or their moms, dads or other interested family members). If what the research suggests is true, that one is able to learn the most up until the age of 5, then please read books with good vocab! This book was lots of fun, I read it with my niece today who's almost 4 and hilarity ensued. It resulted in her parading around the room showing me how she would walk if she had to get a new butt like the ones the little boy thought of in the book. The illustrations were great and really got her imagination going, she spent ages after reading it talking about all the different styles of new butts she could think up and how funny they would be.

And then follows the quest on what new butt to choose. There are all sorts of butts, from coloured ones to flair (taking the saying to a new and literal level). I had so much fun seeing him think of all the butts he could have, and BOY there are many. I would definitely not mind having a choice of butts. Would be fun! I laughed a lot during this part. So so much.Price told the Times literacy instruction was crucial at his school, in a county where more than 21% live under the poverty line. Shopping for pressies for my nephew! (I read it. It counts. It's December and I am behind my reading goals!) He has three children to support, he said, two with severe autism, adding: “I’m tired. I’m stressed. I’m overwhelmed. I need to work.” We have a lot of reluctant readers,” Price said. “I am a firm believer that reluctant readers need the silly, funny books to hook them in.”Thanks to NetGalley and Dover Publications for the e-ARC. Publication date of I Need a New Butt! is on September 17, 2014. Price said school officials told him they feared complaints from parents and Martin said he had been “unprofessional”. Price told the Times he had a lawyer and would fight his firing. The incident has spurred criticism from free speech advocates, who claim the termination could have a chilling effect at a time of conservative-fueled pushes for book bans in schools across the US. Neither Martin nor members of the school board immediately responded to Guardian requests for comment. A silly story that will cause boys and girls to giggle from beginning to end!" — Norman Public Schools
