I’ve read lots of books that feature stalkers in all shapes sizes and forms but Marcus is truly one of the most ‘weaselly’ of characters, petulant, childish, whiney, self centred and arrogant All in all a dark book about a man who appears to be the epitome of all that is great when actually he is the reverse, and then some Georgie doesn’t recognise Marcus but he makes sure he gets to know her that night and leaves her feeling a bit uncomfortable. The fact that she's delighted that a Doctor is now following her progress and makes her feel validated was when I realised I was hooked.

They were right, although personally it was a little later. Even after this point I still didn’t really get into this. Although there was a bit towards the end that I could easily have read till well past bedtime. I listened to the book's audio version. The narrator was just OK. This book would have strongly benefited from multiple narrators since it was not always clear who was saying what as each chapter unfolded. I love Peter James novels and very rarely disappointed. This stand alone is another winner and sure to satisfy his faithful following. There is nothing likeable about Marcus, his jealous behaviour is creepy and chilling and his character comes across very clearly. There are some sections of high intensity, there is tension and the ending is good. However, much of the plot is predictable, some of the dialogue is nauseatingly cheesy and at times the over-detail feels like plot padding.
