We use Cannabidiol (CBD) from organic certified hemp material using gentle supercritical CO₂ extraction – the Honest Hemp™ gold standard. The first time I made this it went as planned. The second time my Shea was crumbly so I melted it but it didn't solidify fully in the fridge before I started combining it with the other oils and so it didn't work and it was less fluffy (more of a butter consistency and still amazing, I'd add). Third time I accidentally turned it into a soup during the step where you add in the cocoa and liquid oil (oil was probably too hot), so I put it in the fridge overnight and it was perfect after whipping the next day. The smell is amazing and more importantly a little goes a long way. Possibly the most crucial element of a good body butter is its ingredients list. Without hydrating, occlusive, and skin-renewing ingredients, a body butter won’t be able to give your scaly skin the nourishment it needs. Dr. Greenfield suggests finding a body butter with solid components like “glycogen, glycerin, cocoa butter, [and] shea butter,” as well as “natural oils [like] linseed, almond, sunflower seed, [and] olive.” She states that her list is “not exhaustive,” though—body butters can boast tons of other ingredients that also deeply moisturize and relieve skin irritations like argan oil, found in Josie Maran’s Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter, or soothing Japanese indigo, found in Tatcha’s Soothing Indigo Body Butter.
