True processless technology allows the plate to be imaged & mounted directly o press forimmediate use October is an exciting month for all kinds of baseball and softball fans from around the world. As a game of inches and seconds measured against the grain, we tap into the heart of the sport as captured on film. 1 3 Share Tweet It’s also quite commonly held in real shops (when/if they ever open again) which gives one the rare opportunities for spontaneous choice. The Superia line was introduced in 1998 , long before the Fujifilm axe began to swing for all but the most popular films the brand was making. It was a successor to the Fujicolor Super G “Plus” line that used Fuji’s branded Real-Tone and Emulsion Layer Stabilizing tech ( source ). All of that was aimed at improving colour reproduction, sharpness, and dynamic range. Superia does the same things but in a different way:

To make things easier for you as you evaluate the photos, I’ve prepared a handy scoring sheet you can use to evaluate the films as we go through the blind test. To use it, and this is important, you’ll need to make a copy of my template. Please don’t send me a request to edit my copy. I can’t give you permission to edit the template. You need to make a copy of mine so you can edit it to your heart’s content. To do that, in Google Docs file menu, go to File -> Make a copy. The scoring sheet will help you prioritize the aspects of color film that are most important and unique to you and your shooting needs. So the first thing you’ll do is go along the top and rate how important each evaluation criteria are to you. First rate how important color is. Note that you’re not defining what is good color, only how important color is to you, in general. Forget the ordinary, make the world extraordinary with this special edition Lomo’Instant Automat Camera with lenses featuring a colorful illustration by Hong Kong artist, Vivian Ho! Estimated to ship-out in December 2022 for the EU and the US! Reala was a Superia variant that was formulated specifically for portraits and skin tones. Then there was the Press range, which has speeds of 400, 800 and 1600 (the 800 is one of my all-time favourite films). These were professional films that basically used the same formula as the Superia films but were refrigerated at all stages of production and distribution. Editor’s Note : One of the most common questions I’m asked is one that’s very difficult to answer. People who’ve never shot film want to know where to start. To find the answer to this question demands that we ask and answer other questions; what type of photography do you want to shoot, in what lighting conditions, and with what camera? To help people choose the film that’s right for them, we publish our Film Profile series. But which film is best for a beginner? In this article, Josh makes the case for a fantastic film from Fujifilm- Superia 400, and shows how this film propelled him through the early days of his photographic journey. – James] I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by the image quality in the under-exposed areas. Despite the colour shifts and the increased grain, the dark parts of my scans look relatively clean, virtually free of all colour noise.

EDUCATION: Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adelphi University with a degree in Communications in Journalism in 2009. Since then, he's learned and adapted to various things in the fields of social media, SEO, app development, e-commerce development, HTML, etc. Both Portra 400 and Fuji Superia are known for having fine grain, however, Portra 400 should have the finer grain of the two. This film seems to have been filling the shelves since the days analogue was the only way to take pictures. Placed next to memory cards, batteries, headphones, and other electronic goods, Superia X-Tra was the sole representative of the emulsive legacy for years.

Fujifilm Superia - Wikipedia

I think Fuji Superia 400 could be a great option for projects that might not be completely important. Like, let’s say you want to shoot good portraits or documentary photography or street photography and you want it to be good but you don’t need it to be absolutely perfect, this is where I think Fuji Superia comes into play.

Natura also incorporated the Nano-structured Σ(Sigma) Grain Technology that Fujifilm patented. With this technology the grain is finer and more consistent. This also enables the film to be stored for longer without losing grain structure. It also has the benefit that it is designed to work in small zoom compacts as these can have lower spec glass. Superia is more worth it because at the time of writing it is a good bit cheaper. Is it worth using it on holiday? Probably. Is it worth using it for some semi-important portraits? Probably also. A few nights later I met with a photographer friend and we went for a night photo walk in Darling Harbour.Again, I enjoyed being able to shoot a little more freely.I finished off the roll and handed it into my lab the next day. So that’s it as far as c-41 or color negative films. Now, keep in mind there are three other really amazing films that are available for shooting in color that we did not cover. These are e6 process slide films. For Fuji we have Velvia and Provia, and for Kodak we have the recently re-released Ektachrome. I did not evaluate these films here as these are not at all what I would call beginner films. Slide films are a bit of a different animal requiring much more precise exposure. Over expose or under expose even a little bit and these films end up being a very expensive waste of time. On the other hands, nailing exposure with these films can be quite rewarding as the colors are brilliant and are hard to duplicate even digitally. If you’re interested in separate video that explores these films, let me know. Maybe we’ll do that in the future. In 2017 came the final nail in the coffin, Fujifilm discontinued Natura 1600. To show its popularity, there was even a change.org petition to try and save the film. Film Specifics

I have tried Kodak UltraMax 400 (and Max400, but I think it’s the same?) and been really disappointed. Pretty washed out and feeble colours compared with my favourite emulsions. But that’s just my experience from maybe half a dozen rolls. It does work pretty well flipped over though and used as DIY redscale!
