About this deal

Friends is an US sitcom about six friends struggling to survive on their own in Manhattan. In each episode, they find the companionship, comfort and support from each other to be the perfect solutions to the pressures of everyday life. The One That Goes Behind the Scenes is a reasonably extensive fifty-minute documentary by Discovery Channel that details the production of the show and takes audiences inside how it's made in the writer's room and on set. This documentary features many interviews and insider footage that makes it a worthwhile supplement for fans. Moving past the aspect-ratio issue (which may either thrill or annoy you), the actual PQ is dramatically improved over the quality on the previous DVD sets. The earlier seasons in particular were significantly upgraded by getting the boost to High Definition.

Friends on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (SD, 22 minutes): Jay sits down with Schwimmer, LeBlanc and Matthew Perry (in Central Perk no less) moments after the actors watched the final episode for the first time. A few minutes later, he invites Aniston, Kudrow and Courtney Cox into the spotlight. Finally, with six minutes to spare, the entire cast shares the stage. Audio Commentaries – Commentaries for "The One Where Ross Got High", "The One That Could Have Been", and "The One With The Proposal" parts one and two with Bright, Kaufman, and Crane. When you own the complete Friends box set you can watch any episode anytime. So what do you get inside the box? Audio Commentaries: The long-running series' tenth and final season walks away with three farewell commentaries: "The One With the Late Thanksgiving" with executive producers Kevin S. Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, "The One Where the Stripper Cries" with Bright, Kauffman and Crane, and "The Last One" with Bright, Kauffman and Crane. The One with the Trailer of Season 2 is a season two trailer (exactly as it sounds with Friends lingo). Yeah, I just repeated the good news. I did that because I don't want to overshadow it with the bad news regarding this set. The bottom line is that this set is the best way to experience this series if you don't mind the episodes being presented in open-matte widescreen with some occasional framing hiccups, the loss of extended episodes that were presented on DVD in previous releases, and if you are OK without lossless audio on the episodes and without a massive amount of new bonus features. I get that this sounds like a lot of issues, but it is definitely not worth passing on this set because of them. Friends Visit The Ellen DeGeneres Show (16 min.) is a sit-down with Ellen for some of the Friends actors. The interviews were recorded separately but this should still be an exciting supplement for fans of Friends and Ellen (who had her own awesome sitcom, of course).

Smelly Cat" Music Video (SD, 2 min) – This music video sadly does not answer the question of exactly what they're feeding that smelly cat. Audio Commentaries – Commentaries for "The One with the Male Nanny", "The One with Rachel's Other Sister", and "The One in Barbados" parts one and two with Bright, Kaufman, and Crane. The logistics of doing Barbados on a sound stage are discussed in depth, as is Monica's bad hair. I can sense many fans already groaning about this aspect of the release. I hear you. This is an issue that no fan will want to face. Unfortunately, it's one of the aspects of the set that should ultimately be taken into consideration. If you are a fan looking for the extended episodes only and can't live without them it's something to consider when weighing in on the pros and cons concerning this release. I still insist that it's worth considering this set. Yet individual fans will have to The UK release of the complete series of Friends finally gets all the extended episodes, extras and commentaries that were previously only available in the US! Unlike the previous Friends box sets below these Friends DVDs are all on single sided discs so are much easier to use. Fans might get upset over the shortcomings of this set. I can understand that. It does have some shortcomings, and because this show is an absolute favorite for so many fans (myself included) to say that the complete series release on Blu-ray (which has been a highly anticipated set) has some flaws and is not an entirely flawless release is going to be annoying for many of you out there. It's understandable. The One that Goes Behind the Scenes (SD, 42 minutes): The first real must-see special feature, this lengthy Discovery Channel documentary is easily the best extra available on the first ten discs and, after so many shallow clip montages, a genuine relief from the monotony. Candid and extensive, a variety of interviews with the cast and crew are intercut with fly-on-the-wall prep and production footage. But it's when the cameras go inside the writer's room, into the cast rehearsals and onto the stage in front of a live studio audience that the documentary really takes off. It's all a bit dated, I'll admit, and it focuses on Season Six episodes rather than much from Season Five. That doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable, though. Don't skip past this one assuming it's as trite as some of the supplemental drivel from the first four seasons. Season 3: The One Where No One's Ready, The One With the Football (featuring Art Director John Shaffner), The One the Morning After Audio Commentaries – Commentaries for "The One Where No One's Ready", "The One With The Football", and "The One the Morning After" with Bright, Kaufman, and Crane. Art director John Shaffner also participates on "The One With The Football". These commentaries set up the template for the commentaries throughout the rest of the set, with each participant recorded separately. Crane mainly talks about writing, characters, and arc, Bright mainly talks about the logistics of shooting, and Kaufman usually tells anecdotes or just laughs at the jokes. In this set, we learn that the football park was built in a studio, and that Lisa Kudrow actually flashed people during that episode.

Friends - Complete Season 1-10 (Blu-ray) - Warner Bros.

Friends ran on NBC for 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004, and centered on six friends in their twenties and thirties who lived in New York City. The six main cast members recently reunited for only the second time in the past 17 years to film a reunion special for HBO Max.Having owned the DVD box set with its poor quality versions I was looking forward to the updated Blu-ray version. I am delighted, the quality is great, lots of extras and included full length versions of some shows. The best feature of this set is its so much more compact for storing.
