The FiiO M11 is the new middle range player that intends to replace the old FiiO X5 Mark III. If the FiiO M9 and M6 allow the use of streaming applications, the M11 goes further by giving you the full Android experience. It’s one of the most smartphone lookalike DAPs available, but that’s also what makes it so cool – the double AKM DAC also provides. All the magic happens here as this is the only place where FiiO engineers were given freedom to come-up with an interesting and good sounding device. Q5S is stuffed with lots of top components, many of which can be found in much more expensive designs.

I loved the Bass Boost, it is the perfect feature to have on a DAC/AMP if you want to color your listening experience.

More outputs, new DAC, better amps, slightly more expensive. Those are the rough sketches. The FiiO Series FiiO K5 Pro I sold also one ps1 and kept the other , again forever possibly . I don't even have a right system for them at moment , they are so demanding to sound right ( but when they sound right then .. ) We didn’t have the chance to get this one for review, but I can give you an excerpt of the previous K5 review, by Lieven: When it comes to raw power, the AM3E amp module is offering up to 210mW of power into 32Ω on the normal 3.5mm (1/8”) headphone out and an amazing 560mW of power into 32Ω on both balanced headphone outs, a very impressive number for a portable device. For a small comparison Q5 offered 160mW and 440mW on the same impedance and headphone output, so a really nice improvement for the loud-listeners or for diaphragm-control freaks like myself.

The same components of AM3E were used to make the AM3A module from the Q5 and from the much more expensive X7 MkII Since, this device carries a desktop DAC chip and more importantly an AKM DAC chip, the sound is a bit wider and deeper than usual, this is exactly what made me feel it sounds more like a desktop unit than like a portable one. It sounds quite decompressed and pushes away the notes a bit. Crowded music is not that big of a problem anymore as the empty space between the notes increases a lot. If not present , some of them will sound veiled or with a fog or distant and not so dynamic .

This review reflects my personal experience with the xDuoo XD-05 Plus. Every opinion expressed is mine and I stand by it, the purpose of this review is to help those interested in xDuoo XD-05 Plus find their next music companion. Since I reviewed many competitors as well, this review isn’t trying to sell the XD-05 Plus to you, but rather trying to help you decide on what is the best choice for you, based on pairings, comparisons and descriptions. In terms of power, I was able to run HIFIMAN Arya, Audeze LCD-2C, and even Rosson RAD-0 from XD-05 Plus. Describing it as perfectly neutral but with a lot of meat and impact behind would be most accurate. It has excellent control, but the soundstage is not the widest ever, giving the impression of a sound that’s warmer than it actually is. There’s a slight warmth in the midrange, but the treble has a smooth texture, and a mellow presentation. The bass is hard and hits deep, everything quite characteristic of the AK DAC chip inside the XD-05 Plus. Q5s-TC mids are good ; they do not sound digital anywhere and they show that slightly mellow half inch upfront smooth behavior for upper-mids transitions to highs , which is good and pleasing . The USB input is taken care by an advanced XUF208 interface from XMOS, that offers stability, low jitter (noise) and will send a clean signal to other components. EDIT : after a little more listenings and A/Bing I would dare to say : while the bluetooth performance is good and better or slightly better then other dongles I have ( Qudelix 5k i.e. ) , and very customizable , the performance in wired mode as USB/DAC is definitely on another league .and prog / fusion / metal / jazz mixes , both old style and modern , for bands and non-classical related genres .

XD-05 Plus has an excellent value, and with the added help and support for XTENIK and Mr. Steven, it is sure to impress and make you fall in love. Front switches also feel nice and tight to operate. Boost stands for 2 position impedance switch (low = <150Ohms, high = >150Ohms), Bass is responsible for boosting lows/midbass and Gain does what expected in 3 significant changes in its level. Left side buttons serve to scroll through inputs (Input), upscale coaxial/optical input stream (SRC) and to change PCM/DSD filters (Filter): DACs: xDuoo XD-05 Plus, xDuoo Link, FiiO Q5S, iFi Audio iDSD BL, Matrix Audio Element X, KECES S3, Topping DX7 Pro, Topping D50S A nerdy guy with a passion for audio and gadgets, he likes to combine his DAC and his swiss knife. Even after more than 10 years of experience, I first connected it to my desktop PC and let it play for the whole night, I recharged it and repeated the process 3 times. XD-05 Plus doesn’t have really big capacitors inside or a lot of them so I feel it doesn’t really need more than 40 hours of burn-in to achieve its fullest potential.It has vents to cool off, because when you provide almost a watt of power at 32 OHMs, you really need vents and to be careful with your power. It even has a smol OLED Display at the front, along with a full fledged volume wheel. There’s just a bit of channel imbalance at the beginning of the volume wheel. Details presentation is very well balanced , with a slight tendency for being analitical or analitically bright ; mellow and very detailed tones are preserved on mids and high mids ( i.e. voices and guitars ) but hardly with an upfront position ; the Q5s-TC is quite a fast and rich detail gives when headphones can receive and land the feed , and this quality can be heard in mids too ; but they will not deserve a specially hot or that superlush spotlight for it , they are treated quite unpartially. The big surprises for me were the two short USB type-C to Type-C and Type-C to Micro-USB OTG adapter cables! Yes, finally! These two made my day, thank you xDuoo! The Fiio Q5s-TC is a surprising contender for world-top portable solution as a dac/amp combo . It feels solid , extremely well designed and engineered , functional , with no evident faults that I noticed on both operational use and output ; and some surprising strenghts .
