About this deal

Ja a životopisy nie sme až takí kamaráti. Až donedávna som dočítala do konca len "My deti zo stanice Zoo" a to len kvôli tomu, že to bola audiokniha. There are parts where I cringed at how Tanszer would minimize or explain away the terrible things her parents did to her. In the end, I got the impression she was articulating her feelings at the time because by the end of the story we have a very good picture of her relationship with them. I really appreciated how she articulated the complexities of her relationship with her family. It is so toxic, but she seems to always hold out hope that they truly care. This whole, "Taking all our jobs and supported by the government" is a lazy way to blame "others" for societal inequities.

This programme contains descriptions of child exploitation and sexual violence which some listeners may find distressing. Aby tam zažila detskú prácu a násilie si ju našlo vtedy, keď to vôbec nečakala.

My mother's side of the family are Romani. Gypsies. No baby-snatching and tambourines, just resilient souls and richly coloured skin. I look most like them, with my brown eyes and scars. I don't have the richly coloured skin, though. Instead of deep bronze or golden ochre, I came out the colour of sunflower oil and, thanks to childhood malnutrition followed by years of low iron levels, I'm now the shade of an off-brand Simpson.'

The Girl from Nowhere: Radio 4 Pick of the Week eBook

Hoci sem tam skončila v deji do minulosti, vždy to malo logiku a dokázala vo mne vyvolat rôzne emócie. But Eliska was given a way out. Slung out of Hoe School and shipped to England in a washing machine box, she thought she had made it. But her dream soon turned into a nightmare. To Eliska Tanzer, it means being rented out to dance for older men. It means living without running water. It means not being allowed a job or an education. It means being stuffed into a bare room with all your aunts and cousins, fighting over the thin, stained blanket the way you fight over the last piece of half-mouldy bread. History Makers: Female Writers Dominate the 2023 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award Shortlist je dosť ťažký, takže ak má niekto to šťastie, že nájde lásku a šťastie, nech si ho užije. Muži s mužmi, ženy so ženami – čo na tom záleží? Milujem láskavosť žien a silu mužov. Nemusím si vyberať a ak je niekto pohoršený zo vzťahov rovnakého pohlavia, povzbudila by som túto osobu, aby vyhľadala terapiu. Byť natoľko znepokojený z toho, čo niekto iný robí so svojimi genitáliami, nie je známkou zdravého a vyváženého jedinca, mieni Eliška Tanzer.

Best Books Set in the 1920s — from Stories That Shimmer with Champagne and Social Change, to Rip-roaring Reads Covering Crime, Colonialism and Beyond. Pravda surová ako životThis is her story. A true story of resilience, determination, and hunger to learn. A story of a girl on the brink.
