The brand’s name derives from the Dutch barn that was on the farm and has been preserved in the design of the distillery and where the spirits home of Ellers Farm Distillery now stands. The move marks the launch of Asda’s Nurture programme, which champions emerging brands and seeks to bring customers new products more often. The apples used to produce the spirit are 100% British fruit, sourcing from an expert apple processor who in turn sources locally helps to minimise its carbon footprint, as well as support British apple farmers. Furthering the B-Corp ambitions of Ellers Farm Distillery, Dutch Barn comes in a locally-sourced brown glass bottle which protects the vodka better and is made of up to 60 per cent recycled glass. Ellers Farm Distillery’s head of sustainability, Tabatha Hurst, said: “I am very excited to see Dutch Barn come to life, truly demonstrating our efforts to minimise our environmental impact wherever while giving people an eco-spirit they can truly enjoy – finding the perfect balance between people, profit and planet.” The vodka market is a huge opportunity; vodka is the #1 spirit in the on-trade, where spirits account for 23.1% of total drinks in the on-trade, with vodka taking a 26.2% of those – out of which 27.7% can be attributed to premium and super premium vodka 1.
