About this deal

Dan has presented shows on BBC Radio 5 Live and presented Sportsday on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News, as well as regularly reporting for Final Score and Match of the Day. Dan has gone and done it again, thoroughly recommended! He admits himself the themes in this book are very similar to his first. You don't have to have read Remarkable People to enjoy this book but if you have you will find updates on a good number of the folks mentioned. There are so many great people we can read about in history, Dan Walker sits down with folks in the here and now, he not only writes their story but he shows us how their unique approaches to their experiences can teach us so much. It's not necessary to have read the first book, Remarkable People to get the most from this one. Dan does revisit a few people mentioned in the first book with an update on their lives since he last spoke to them and how they are progressing either personally with a particular cause.

The new audiobook from the author of the bestselling Remarkable People contains a totally fresh batch of humble heroes whose actions, bravery and determination have helped shape their communities. Rose and her Mum apparently were the first to arrive and were the last to leave, so they didn't just drop by like might be expected. History can be cruel and forgetful to those who don’t shout about their own success or good deeds, but 'Standing on the Shoulders' is a celebration of ordinary people and the extraordinary things they do.

Also production were a fabulous input into this pairing and I now understand why Rose has been so praising of Strictly - Sarah James was a great force between the two of them and made sure Rose felt supported every step of the way and probably why Rose would’ve agreed to do another 10 weeks in a heartbeat if she had the chance! Think that’s a real testament how much she enjoyed the whole experience given how much she was pushing herself every week and not only the mentality of being the ‘deaf poster girl’ but also the physical challenge her body underwent too! Not only a great insight into her relationship with her mum and what a (obvious!) supporter she is of her daughter but also a really good insight into the Rose & Gio relationship. It really made me appreciate Rose even more given what a strenuous few opening weeks she had (she quite rightly never let on) and how much Gio pushed her to be the version of herself only he could see at the time. I also have to congratulate Gio for all the thought he put into the CC routine & never accepting the ‘cheats’ route of how he gets out of that silent moment also not hearing the music alongside Rose. As one of the UK’s leading journalists, Dan has made it his life work to focus on people who often act as the catalysts for change: the unheralded champions who frequently go without getting the recognition they deserve. It gives a really interesting insight into Strictly world & actually how much effort & thought goes into it! Very rarely have we had that sort of insight but I thought everyone spoke really positively of the show, what goes on behind the scenes etc it was a very good read! Taylor said: “History can be cruel and forgetful to those who do not shout about their own success or good deeds, but Dan’s new book is a beautifully written and illuminating celebration of ordinary people and the extraordinary things they do, and a timely reminder of the goodness and positivity that drives us forward during challenging times.”

Headline has acquired two new books by broadcaster and journalist Dan Walker, star of the 2021 series of “Strictly Come Dancing”, following the success of Remarkable People: Extraordinary Stories of Everyday Lives (Headline) which published in 2020 and sold 50,000 copies across all formats . I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who seemingly hasn’t read it - I just wanted to discuss it with people who had and their thoughts on it! The new book from the author of the bestselling Remarkable People contains a totally fresh batch of humble heroes whose actions, bravery and determination have helped shape their communities.

It’s a good read - very interesting reading about the journey with Nadiya & also the full Rose & Gio journey too We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. The ability to comment on our stories is a privilege, not a right, however, and that privilege may be withdrawn if it is abused or misused. Was just wondering if anyone has read Dans new book as obviously Nadiya is featured in her own chapter & the same goes for Rose & Gio too…The chapter wraps up with some reflections on what they both took away from that series of Strictly. Nadiya's final comment: If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking! Where to Find Us As one of the UK's leading journalists, Dan has made it his life work to focus on people who often act as the catalysts for the unheralded champions who frequently go without getting the recognition they deserve.

I enjoyed hearing about how strictly works and I was very surprised at Gio's words (in a good way). So nice to see that side of him.Nadiya's early life and how she made it as a ballroom champion, her inspiration (Slavik Krykliyvyy) how vital her Mum Larisa's support has been The later chapters on forgiveness are an excellent opportunity for Dan to open up about his own faith and share how the root of Christianity is the need for forgiveness for sins. A great opportunity.
