About this deal

A good footrest is as important to comfort as the chair you sit in, and Secretlab’s Professional Footrest is ideal for home or office use

Highlight Tone Priority is a custom function (C.Fn-6), which can be enabled from the main menu. Use of this custom function improves highlight detail by expanding the camera's dynamic range in the highlights. Highlight Tone Priority reduces the extent of highlight blow-out considerably. The 100% crops also reveal that highlight detail was better retained and defined. Canon has rated the EOS 1200D’s battery as lasting for approximately 500 shots in 23°C temperatures, or 410 in 0°C conditions. While this is far fewer than the 700-650 shots rated by the EOS 1100D, 500 shots should be sufficient for most day-to-day shooting and additional batteries can be bought separately.

The EOS 1200D has been a long time coming and given Canon’s engineers have had three years to refine the EOS 1100D, we were expecting a few more developments to challenge its rivals in the market slightly harded. The addition of the 18MP sensor and wider sensitivity range should see it offer improved image quality to those who choose it over the EOS 1100D, but we were anticipating a higher resolution screen in addition to a more advanced AF system. The 9-point AF array has been synonymous with the entry-level EOS models for so many years it leaves us guessing when we’ll ever see more introduced. Perhaps our expectations were a little high, but we half suspected the camera to feature the company’s newer DIGIC 5 or DIGIC 6 image processor as opposed to the older DIGIC 4. Had it used either the DIGIC 5 or latest DIGIC 6 image processor, the 1200D might have had a standing chance of competing against the Nikon D3300 in terms of the speed at which it shoots. As it turns out the EOS 1200D shoots 2fps slower. Canon's Picture Styles are preset combinations of different sharpness, contrast, saturation and colour tone settings. You can tweak these Picture Controls to your liking, and there are also User Defined styles so that you can create your own look. Standard The main upgrades are on the inside. The 18-megapixel sensor and 1080p video mode are significant improvements on the 1100D’s 12 megapixels and 720p video, and match the 700D’s specifications. Other features remain unchanged. Its autofocus sensor has nine points but only the centre point is cross-type for increased sensitivity. It also uses the same optical viewfinder as the 1100D with a 0.8x magnification, which is slightly smaller than the 700D’s 0.85x magnification. It’s fitted with Canon’s DIGIC 4 rather than the latest DIGIC 5 processor, which means that chromatic aberrations aren’t corrected automatically for JPEGs. Meanwhile, its 3fps continuous shooting speed appears to be deliberately hobbled – the EOS 600D used the same 18-megapixel sensor and DIGIC 4 processor and managed 4fps. That said, I haven't used this particular camera a lot yet, I've only had it for about a month now. But here is what I like about this camera. It is probably the best choice for an entry level DSLR buyer like me. It wasn't difficult to get it up and running, I had good results with my first efforts, and it wasn't all that expensive to try.

The T5 / 1200D’s built-in flash is popped up using a button just behind the main dial on the top of the grip. It’s not as odd a place for it as you might think because it’s programmable and can be assigned to ISO sensitivity. The flash is the same unit as on the earlier T3 / 1100D with a Guide Number of 9.2 in metres at 100 ISO. That’s a little less powerful than the Nikon D3300’s built-in flash which has a Guide Number of 12 and also offers wireless control with compatible Nikon units. With a GN of 9.2 the Sony A3000’s built-in flash has the same power output as the T5 / 1200. Both the T5 / 1200D and D3300 have a hotshoe, as does the Sony A3000, but the latter is Sony’s multi-interface shoe which can take an external flash as well as other accessories.Other features include a 9-point AF system and an optical viewfinder which presents a natural view of the scene. This is great for those who are put off by the electronic viewfinders in some other cameras, which can suffer from lagging. There's also a 3in LCD screen, which sadly doesn't tilt around to all sorts of positions – but then at this price, we wouldn't expect it to. In relation to its predecessor, the Canon 1100D, the 1200D’s specification is all over the place, with some features undergoing huge improvements and others none at all. One of the main talking points of the camera is its 18MP sensor, offering a significant resolution jump from the 12.2MP of the 1100D. The EOS T5 / 1200D is capable of continuous shooting at 3fps and should maintain that rate for 69 large fine JPEGs or 6 RAW fles. To test it, I fitted the T5 / 1200D with a freshly formatted Sandisk UHS-1 SD card rated at 45MB/s, set the image size to large fine JPEG and selected the continuous shooting drive mode. With the shutter release held down the T5 / 1200D fired off a sequence of 100 frames with metronomic regularity and would would most likely have continued well beyond that had I not taken my finger off the button. I timed the 100 frame burst at exactly the quoted 3fps. Set to RAW, the T5 / 1200D managed the same 3fps rate for a burst of 8 shots before stalling and continuing at a much slower pace around 1fps. i was planning to buy 600d for 31k but then u see this amazing camera for only 22k with only difference as rotating screen, screen resolution and 3 shots per second compared to 3.8. Canon Speedlites (90EX, 220EX, 270EX, 270EX II, 320EX, 420EX, 430EX, 430EX II, 550EX, 580EX, 580EX II, 600EX, 600EX-RT, Macro-Ring-Lite, MR-14EX, MR-14EX II, Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX, Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2, Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT)

For comparison, the Nikon D3300 body measures 124x98x76mm and weighs 460g with battery, while Sony’s Alpha A3000 measures 128x91x85mm and weighs 411g with battery; so all three are roughly in the same ballpark, and thanks to its traditional DSLR styling, you wouldn’t be choosing the A3000 over its rivals on the grounds of space or weight-saving. The Canon EOS 1200D produced images of very good quality during the review period. This camera produces noise-free images at ISO 100 up to ISO 800, with some noise appearing at ISO 1600. The faster setting of ISO 3200 is still usable, although we'd suggest avoiding ISO 6400 and especially 12800 if possible. The 18 megapixel images were quite soft straight out of the camera at the default sharpening setting and ideally require some further sharpening in an application like Adobe Photoshop, or you can change the in-camera setting. The built-in pop-up flash worked well indoors, with no red-eye and good overall exposure. The night photograph was very good, with the maximum shutter speed of 30 seconds and Bulb mode allowing you to capture enough light in most situations. I was in debate with some friends that should i buy 600D or 1200D. Obviously 600D had an edge over the 1200D and is better. But discussing more they even agreed this a great camera at this price with an additional lens! VIDEO: 720p | 1080p | Uncompressed 1080p | 4K | 5.5K | 8K ⋅ SCREEN: Flip (tilt) F , Articulating A , Touchscreen T ⋅ BODY FEATURE: In-Body Image Stabilization S , Weather Sealed

Based on the CIPA Standard and using the batteries and memory card format supplied with the camera, except where indicated For my needs the T5 is great! Great low-light performance, decent battery life, easy to use, sharp photos, the bonus of a second HD video camera without buying another video camera, solid audio recording from the built-in mic (no mic input for external mic). It's light and compact for a DSLR. If you've used a Rebel before then the learning curve is shallow and fast! Fast response when shooting as an SLR so you don't miss any shots. Built in flash doesn't overpower pictures. Shutter priority and aperture priority modes work very well and exposure compensation function is solid. Image information: Highlight tone priority (D+), monochrome shooting, maximum burst (1 digit display), White balance correction, SD card information This concludes our evaluation of the EOS 1200D's ergonomics, handling, feature set and performance. Let's take a look at its Image Quality next.

As a kit, the EOS 1200D comes with an 18-55mm f/3.5-f/5.6 IS III lens. With the 1.6x crop factor of the APS-C sensor, this is equivalent to 28.8-88mm in 35mm. Canon says the image stabilisation allows a slower shutter speed of up to 4 stops. Zone TTL Full-aperture Metering, Evaluative Metering (Linked to All AF Points), Partial Metering (10% of Viewfinder at Center), Center Weighted Average Metering Improving the sharpness of the JPEG images is relatively easy. Picture Style has a default sharpness value of +3, but setting it to +5 improves the results. However, far more detailed images can be achieved by processing the raw files using the supplied software or Adobe Camera Raw. The capture rate here is just under 30fps - 29.97 fps according to Canon's blurb; obviously if you want 60fps or slow motion capture options look elsewhere. One concession at this budget price, however, is that sound is mono. The EOS 1200D combines Canon's world class imaging system with a range of intuitive, easy-to-use controls. Together with Canon's EOS Companion app, capturing images is easier and more enjoyable than ever before. The EOS 1200D has a bigger 3-inch and higher-resolution 460k dot fixed LCD screen than the the older EOS 1100D, but it's still one of the main ways that it achieves its budget price-point. The bright Pentamirror optical viewfinder is the same as the previous model, offering 95% coverage of the scene, 0.80x magnification and dioptre control for glasses wearers. Depth of Field Preview is available when assigned to the SET button via Custom Function 8-5. The Canon EOS T5 / 1200D has a lot to recommend it in handling terms as an introduction to DSLR photography. The controls are nice and big, clearly labelled, and well spaced. The menu system is clear, logically organised and easily navigable. And Canon’s Q menu has incrementally improved over the years to the point where it’s arguably one of the best methods for changing shooting settings on a non touch-screen camera.
