However, Joy instead wishes to teach Elsa how to survive in the wild, which Kendall reluctantly gives her and George three months to do. We started to support the Amboseli Elephant Research Project in Kenya, to study the behaviour and social dynamics of savannah elephants. We supported an ongoing project to help Sri Lanka’s Elephant Transit Home rehabilitate juvenile orphan elephants, return them to the wild and monitor their progress. We launched It’s Time Parliament Changed Its Act report and campaign with the RSPCA, to end the use of wild animals in UK circuses. Of the three lion cubs, Big One and Lustica — meaning “Jolly One” — were the biggest, strongest, and most vocal of the litter. Elsa, the runt, “[…] would have probably been the throw-out of the pride,” Joy wrote. She went on to say, “[…] one usually sees only two cubs with a lioness [as] another is often too weak to be reared”.

Living in South Africa, I have always been awed by the nature of wild animals. Although I am not the biggest fan of non-fiction, books about animals always fascinate me. affirms the fundamental rights of all human beings in simplified a child-friendly version. The book builds on this foundation of commonality and depicts it with lavish diversity. Each artist brings their signature style and interpretation to these important words. We began long-term support of the Last Great Ape Organisation in Cameroon as they helped capture and prosecute dealers in rare wildlife, especially apes and elephants. I had read about Joy and George in previous books I had read - A Lion Called Christian and Born Wild, so I felt it necessary to read about Joy's own experiences.

After heavy negotiating the Adamsons eventually found a place in the Serengeti Reserve in neighbouring Tanganyika where the cubs resettled.
