About this deal

The writing was fantastic, the pace of the story perfect for this kind of read and overall the story had a realistic vibe that made me think and almost gave me the chills. Even if the story is about a married couple, the story doesn’t have any romance, which was fine by me. Lucy Palmer has it all: loving children, a dashing husband and a beautiful home. What goes on behind closed doors, however, is different matter. When something unthinkable happen, Lucy is forced to come to face-to-face with her mistakes and confront the secrets she's been keeping from herself and those she loves the most. Life is very different on the other side of the door, where Michael is controlling and manipulating. He knows how to mentally beat her up and crush her, while there are no scars for anyone to see. When a tragic event takes place, it gives Lucy a chance to take a new direction. But now she is hiding an even bigger secret.

I became so frustrated with the protagonist, Grace, that my stress levels were off the charts. I loved every minute of it!There is not as much focus on romance in Behind Closed Doors as there usually is in novels by this writer, but that’s fine as this is such and interesting and absorbing story. Told entirely from Lucy’s point of view, with enough humour to lighten the dark subject matter, we are with her all the way as she contemplates how (and with whom) she wants to live the rest of her life. While I can’t say I loved this one, I liked it enough to consider reading another book from this author. I think I went into this book almost expecting to know how things would end so I was pleasantly surprised that I was actually wrong with a lot of my assumptions!

psychological suspense novels like Gone Girl are characterized by the destabilizing effect they have on their reader; where tension is built and maintained through misdirection and the manipulation of narrative twists, keeping the reader guessing, uncertain about what's actually going on, where the story is headed, if the narrator can be trusted. To the outside world, Lucy had an enviable life. Her husband Michael, a part-time theatre critic, while Lucy is a relatively successful author of a long-running cosy mystery series. They have been married for 28 years and have two grown-up children. As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before. This book was like Lucy, as it held so many secrets, stories and emotions that made me gasp. I raged and laughed at times as I touched base with parts of this story and nodded along with fully understanding. Some incredible characters hang on to memories of their pasts while making many more of them while they can. I envied Lucy for having parents while at the same time wanting to become like them in a few years.

Behind Closed Doors” is a heartwarming and engaging story focusing on domestic abuse, aging parents, starting over and dealing with emotions that can make or break your world. Funny at times but still handling the delicate subject matters with empathy and warmth and I’d be happy to read the previous books this author has written. i am absolutely fine with calling this a marriage thriller or a psychological thriller, but the word "suspense" and the wrong readalikes set up certain expectations that will be unmet by this book.My initial reaction during the beginning of this book was, "What The Hell Is Going On." I knew it wasn't good and I had an idea but ideas are never totally what your thinking. This book actually did have very dark themes that I wasn't expecting. Iv always kept up with Catherine Alliot and will always read her books, might she be stearing in another direction!? 🤔 if so... that's all good with me. I love her flawless writing style and her sharp tongue! Funny when it probably shouldn't be, but I liked this about it. this book is perfect proof as to why i think people who get married to someone they have known less than six months are completely out of their minds.
