Adidas unveiled the Brazuca at a launch event on 3 December 2013, two days ahead of the traditional unveiling of the World Cup match ball at the draw of the group stages of the World Cup Final. [2] The launch event took place in Rio de Janeiro at Parque Lage and featured a 3D light projection, which revealed the Brazuca to everyone in attendance. [3] [18] As might be expected, adidas are talking up the performance and stability of the latest ball, but expect opinions on it to form one of the minor discussion threads between now and the World Cup. And then expect the same in four years time — the ball reveal comes hard on the heels of adidas and Fifa extending a partnership that began with the 1970 World Cup in Mexico and will now run until at least 2030. a b "adidas brazuca – tried and tested". Eagle-eyed viewers may actually have seen a disguised version of this ball already. Under development since the end of the 2010 tournament, the ball has been tested by some 600 players, including the Adidas-sponsored Lionel Messi and Bastian Schweinsteiger, and by teams including Milan, Bayern Munich and Argentina. Most notably the ball was used in a recent Argentina v Sweden friendly and in the Under-20 World Cup, painted in an older design.

Since then, the ball has also played a starring role in competitions such as the FIFA Club World Cup, Copa del Rey, MLS, DFB Pokal as well as numerous international friendlies. At the last World Cup, the footballing world hated the ball. For the 2014 tournament, World Cup sponsor adidas had the perfect ball. But we didn't just want people to like it, or even love it - we wanted them to idolise it. So, it was time to bring adidas's World Cup hero product to life; for football fans, media, and influencers, everywhere. The ball is a developmental successor to the Adidas Tango 12 series of balls, with the same bladder and carcass but a different surface structure. [2] [5] The ball weighs 437 grams and has a circumference of 69 centimetres. [6] The ball has been made of six polyurethane panels which have been thermally bonded; the reduction in the number of panels is claimed to increase the consistency in the ball. [2] The Brazuca ball has been stated to avoid aerodynamic problems with the Jabulani ball used in South Africa for the previous World Cup. [7] It is textured to feel more like the Adidas Finale 13, the official UEFA Champions League ball, than the Jabulani. Brazuca was a storming success. Millions followed in the first week of the tournament. Brazuca achieved worldwide media coverage in publications covering everything from fashion to football; and built a community of over 3.4 million @brazuca followers. Mashable even interviewed our talking ball. The design of adidas Brazuca Final Rio is inspired by the green and gold ofthe famous World Cup trophy and is a variation of the standard brazuca ball that will be used throughout the tournament up until the very last game.Leswing, Kif (9 December 2013).
