About this deal

The noes begins with lots of oak wood, caramel and vanilla. The vanilla is especially present and gives it a brilliant sweetness. Dark cherries and hints of marzipan and sweet nuts also come through. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Aberlour is currently owned by Chivas Brothers, part of the larger Pernod Ricard group who took over the distillery in the 1970s. It has an annual production capacity of 3.8 million litres, although plans are submitted for a major upgrade and expansion. Aberlour sits comfortably within the Top 10 in terms of worldwide single malt sales and market share, being particularly popular in France and the USA. Nose: Big aromatics on this one with cloves, cardamom and camphor, and then comes a wave of sweeter notes like toffee, milk chocolate and orange rind. Aberlour 14 Year Old Double Cask has recently joined their core range alongside the 12, 16, and 18 Year Old releases. It is a combination of first-fill American oak (bourbon) casks and Oloroso sherry casks. I’ve no idea for how long it matured in sherry casks, but judging by the aroma and the flavours, it was a considerable amount. I don’t think anyone tasting this blind, would guess this to be anything else than a big time sherry bomb. Aberlour 14 Years Old Double Cask (58,2%, OB for LMdW, 150 bts.)

It was bought by Robert Thorne & Sons who later sold it to W. H. Holt & Sons in 1921, a brewery near Manchester. It changed hands again in 1945 to S. Campbell & Sons Ltd. There are only a few distilleries truly known for releasing sherry matured whiskies, and Aberlour is certainly one of them. Their entire core range is highlighted by sherry influenced drams, with the Aberlour a’bunadh probably the most well-known example. While you don’t encounter many Aberlour whiskies from independent bottlers, the distillery itself does release single cask bottlings every once in a while. They do this mostly in collaboration with a third party, in this case La Maison du Whisky, the French retail outlet and importer.Yep you’re on the money. Just wrong really. Why put some much into something for 14 years only to rip all of the decent flavours out of it to make it 40%. My advice, having bought a bottle, would be to look elsewhere

Terribly disappointing to say the least. Watery and something about it even tasted off to me like it was half built with a synthetic whisky alternative. Thought I was maybe having a bad day and my taste buds were off but successive attempts yielded nothing but an aversion. I tried, Lord I tried with it but I’ve now put it away in the cupboard out of sight, out of mind and am waiting for someone to wrong me so I can give it to them. The Aberlour 14 years old Double Cask Matured is a very pleasant single malt that offers plenty to the drinker. The layers of aromas and flavours build up and the results are delicious. This whisky would be the perfect introduction for someone to the richer style/sherry cask style of whiskies and to what Aberlour do. It has a lovely level of richness and sweetness without going too far in either direction, plus a soft and gentle mouth feel.Whisky For Everyone is a blog for all lovers of whisky - beginner, keen enthusiast or connoisseur.
